House in Provence, France
Property Details of Provence House
The house is one of a 350 year old terrace house. It has 2 rooms on each floor.
Ground floor, new bathroom, with shower, WC, bidet washhand basin and washing machine and a converted 'cave' at the rear with a big double bed. The 'cave' has ventilation but no window, it has the original beams and it is the coolest room in the house.
First floor has the kitchen in the front and the main bedroom in the rear, with 2 single beds. The Kitchen is equiped with a table for 6, a fridge, microwave and a butane gas cooker, and also a closed wood burning fire.
Top floor has a lounge at the rear and a roof terrace at the front. The lounge contains a banquette which converts into a good size double bed, creating accomodation for 6 if required. The roof terrace provides a place to sit and eat, has a gas barbecue and good views to the South and West.
The floors and stairs are tiles and stone, and the water heating and room heating is electric.
Local Area DetailsThe village has a population of about 300, a shop which sells everthing and a bar restaurant. Sunday lunch ia a must!! The village is pretty. As the area is a centre of ochre mining local builders have started to use ochre coloured materials when renovating the exteriors of the houses. The village and the 'square' ( with fountain, tree, and open air public laudering facilities) now has very attractive variegated pastel effects. It is also off the beaten track in a most attractive part of Provence.
The Area is part of the departement de Vaucluse with the best known cities Orange and Avignon. The nearest town of any size is Carpentras but the most obvious landmark is Mont Ventoux. Flassan is at the southern foot and is surrounded by vines and fruit trees but has forests and gorges close by to the North and East. Bathing facilities are close by, a plan d'eau in the next village but the Mediteranean is only about one and a half hours away at Marseilles. Drinkers will find the proximity of Gigondas, Vacqueyras and Beaumes-de-Venise attractive with Chateauneuf-du-Pape no great distatnce away.Local wines ar also very good, our favourites being Bedion for red, Mazan for white and Caromb for rose, and the wine from Domaine St. Pierre on the outskirts of the village is the best!!
