Local Area Details

The villa is situated between the sea & the mountains. The river Cagnes is a few kilometres away-great venue for picnics, riverside walks & swimming in rock pools. Nearest motorway junction is 20 mins by car. The train station is at Cagnes sur Mer-15 mins by car. The coast is about 25 mins by car. The "ARRIERE PAYS" is close by & there are many lovely hilltop villages to visit. Vence has a charming Medieaval Walled Town which has a cathedral, town hall, square, small narrow streets, interesting shops, galleries, craft workshops, cafes, bars, restaurants. Rue du Marche is a must for lovers of French food. There is a market on Tuesday & Friday mornings. Vence is known world wide for the Matisse Chapel-Matisse's final masterpiece. Mercantour National park is 1 hrs drive & skiing can b found at GREOLIERES LES NEIGES-40 mins drive or at ISOLA 2000-1 1/2 hour's drive. several good golf courses can be found in the area. Theme parks & night life are down on the coast at Antibes, Cannes or Nice. boat trips bto the islands can be taken from Nice, Cannes or Theoule sur Mer. In february Nice hosts its Carnival season & at Menton is the Lemon festival. The mimosa is also wonderful at this time & the Mimosa Forest towards the Esterel is a sight to be seen. The "train des Pignes" a light railway runs from Nice. It goes as far as Digne passing through lovely unknown countryside & isolated villages. horse riding is possible at the ranches in the hills nearby. the italian border is an hours drive. this area has literally SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE.
