Spacious restored auberge farmhouse near Cluny France

House in Burgundy, France

Property Details of Burgundy House

The property is a comfortable, fully-renovated 250 year-old former auberge, bakery and farmhouse that has retained most of its original architectural features (exposed granite blocks, roof timbers, wood beams and stone fireplace). It also provides, as a room separate from the main living area, a renovated baker's oven ('four à pain') for use as a barbecue area. The two-story house, terrace, courtyard and garden all face south with nice views of the surrounding countryside. The two double bedrooms are each very spacious (35 m2) and the one upstairs features a cathedral ceiling with exposed beams and a parquet floor. Two single bedrooms plus two full baths, one on each floor, are also contained within the house. Included in the price would be all linen, towels, kitchenware / cooking utensils, utilities, and heating and firewood during the off-season. On-site English-speaking neighbours on hand to assist with any additional operating instructions, as well as for key-handling and changeover. A perfect base for touring, house-hunting or simply enjoying the pleasures and tranquillity of pristine rural France.

Local Area Details

Located in Southern Burgundy, 15 minutes west of the historical town of Cluny, our home is set in the 'bourg' of the small picturesque village of Sivignon, amidst a hilly and very scenic landscape and within easy access of prestigious wine areas (Burgundy, Beaujolais) and other celebrated sights and attractions. The village boasts a number of local artists and craftspeople, including the 'Glasshouse de Sivignon' glassworks. Throughout this area influenced by proximity to the cultural and historical centre of Cluny (with its festivals, famous abbey tour, national equestrian centre and animation), villages are dotted with jewels of Burgundian-style architecture and Romanesque churches.

Mâcon is a half-hour's drive away and offers all of the resources and amenities of a major city. To the west lies the Charollais country, renowned for its rolling pastureland and well-preserved architectural charm (with places like Paray-le-Monial and Semur-en-Brionnais tops on the visit list). Also nearby are a number of good restaurants, ranging from 'fermes-auberges' to the more refined gastronomy Burgundy is famous for (a selection of addresses are included in the 'homemade' tourist guide we provide to all guests).
