House in Southern Cyprus, Cyprus

Property Details

AN INSIDE VIEW OF HIGH VIEW

Built into the hillside of Pissouri village about 900ft above sea level the 12-year-old property commands panoramic views hence the name. It is an "upsidedown" house with the downstairs being the bedrooms and bathroom. Go through the sliding windows in the bedrooms and you're on to a patio with a small private garden where palm trees grow - a good spot to catch the early morning sun.
The master bedroom has a king size with orthopaedic mattress, a T.V. and fitted wardrobes which incorporate a dressing table. There's a hair dryer and a small safe to store any valuables.
The second bedroom has twin beds and fitted wardrobes. Both bedrooms have air conditioning, and fly screens on the windows. All the beds were new in January 2002, and are the latest Cypriot designs constructed of metal frames with metalic finishes.
The downstairs bathroom has a shower over the bath, a loo and a glass wash hand basin. All towels and bedding are provided for your stay.
From the bedrooms going upstairs to the living quarters there's a marble-effect winding staircase which is one reason why High View Villa is not suitable for young children or the severely disabled.
The stairs take you in to the lounge and dining area where there are, we believe, all the comforts of home.
There're lots of original paintings on the walls throughout the villa. In the lounge there are reading lamps, there's a 29"T.V., and a HI-FI. (compact disc/radio). You'll find plenty of crockery in the wall unit cupboards, and ample cystal glasses - even high-quality plastic ones for outdoors. There is a cool box to keep your drinks chilled. Fire extinguisher, first aid kit, sewing box.
For your enjoyment there are books to read and board games to play including Monopoly and Scrabble. There's a set of dominoes and packs of cards.
There's an upstairs cloakroom with loo and wash hand basin.
To see the "big picture" from High View Villa there are three sets of binoculars with which to admire the magnificent surroundings.
If you're lucky enough to be resident in High View Villa when the famous Red Arrows are on the island training for their summer schedule, you can see these flying machines being put through their paces from the 35-square metre upstairs balcony.
In the upstairs half of the house there's a dining table and chairs, a three-seater and a two-seater sofa, occassional tables, wall units, cupboards and drawers.
Off the dining is a large kitchen which has an electric cooker, a fridge-freezer, a dishwasher, a washing machine and a microwave. A double granite sink. There are stainless steel pans, Onieda stainless steel cutlery, an electric fruit juicer and all cooking utensils - and the all-important BOTTLE OPENER! We've provided an iron and ironing board, an electric kettle, a toaster and a coffee percolator.
You'll also be surrounded by lots of Margueritas (the flower) my name-sake in Greek!
The upstairs patio is accessed from the lounge and it has six sun loungers, a large patio table and six patio chairs along with cushions to fit this furniture. There's a barbeque and an outdoor trolley. An awning, operated by electricity, can be opened. should you wish, to cover threequarters of the balcony to give shade from the mid-day sun. There is also a smaller patio which runs down the side of the house and is a nice place to sit to get the late afternoon sun. In the middle of summer a shady nook to keep cool is the under-covered garden area below the car park.
We strive to keep High View Villa in the best possible condition and refurbish, redecorate and replace things on a regular basis. We do NOT EXPECT our guests to have to lower their standards and have second best just because they're renting! We take a pride in our home in the Cyprus sun and we hope when you stay High View Villa will appeal to YOUR good taste.

PISSOURI - PLACES TO VISIT WITHIN EASY REACH.

Pissouri is situated on the South coast of Cyprus. This hillside village is roughly half way between the tourist towns of Paphos and Limassol. It is a holiday destination for connoisseurs. Itis a place to unwind far from the maddening crowds. Yet there are enough facilities for visitors to experience real Greek Cypriot hospitality and cuisine.
Pissouri Village is around 1,000ft above sea-level and is truly a holiday hideaway-an "oasis" where life is led in the slow lane - butit's far from boring!
Pissouri Beach is 3km from Highview. Here you will find a EU. Blue flag beach. Watersports facilities, and numerous Tavernas and eating places. A few shops and a bank.
The village of Pissouri is seven minuets walk from Highview. It is traffic free and here you will find lots of eating places all around the edge of the square, where you can sit and watch the world go by whilst having your dinner in the evening.
Pissouri has stunning views, it is a very sought after place and is a god place to see the wild flowers of Cyprus and migratory birds that flock to the area.

LIMASSOL: It's just 25 minutes drive from Pissouri to the old port of this city. In Limassol old town you'll find a Medieval castle built in the 13th century. St Andrew's Street is the shopping hub of the old town where there are craft and gift shops galore and bespoke tailors abound. A waterside walk stretching 17 kms from the old port out to Le Meridien Hotel is almost complete. Along the coast road there are bars, tavernas, discos, nightclubs and hotels.

KOLOSSI CASTLE:To get here, turn off the motorway en-route to Limassol at Ypsonsas. The castle, built between the 14th and 15th century, is sign-posted. The Knights of St. John arrived here around 1210, and Richard the Lion Heart is reputed to have married Berengaria of Navarro at the castle after his return from The Crusades. The local wine is Cammandaria and was first made at Kolossi by the Knights of St. John.

EPISKOPI VILLAGE:This is about 12 miles from Pissouri just off the motorway to Limassol. A museum houses finds from the Bronze Age and there is the world-famous Kourio Amphitheatre; the Kourio Basilica; mosaics; Kourio Stadium and the popular Kourio Beach. Kourio is pronounced Curium.

APHRODITE'S ROCK:Is about eight minutes drive from Pissouri village on the old road towards Paphos. It's one of the most famous beauty spots in Cyprus. Legend has it that if you swim around the rock three times you will have eternal beauty (but there are no guarantees!). One of the best views of the rock is from the restaurant on the hillside across the road.

PAPHOS:A visit here is a "must". Just about 20 miles west of Pissouri, good seafood restaurants can be found in this ancient fishing port. The harbour is a popular place to sit and watch the world go by, and it's also the place to see the resident pelicans. Paphos is home to some of the most treasured archeological sites in Cyprus. The Odeon - it's not a cinema! - dates from the 1st century AD. The Tomb of the Kings dates from the 3rd century BC. At the House of Dionysus, located between the harbour and the lighthouse, there are more fantastic mosaics.

POLIS AND LATCHI:These area two old fishing villages are 3km apart and about 40 minutes drive north of Paphos. Visit them and take luncheon because restaurants here are famed for their seafood.

THE AKAMAS:This is a protected National Park on the west coast of Cyprus and the best way to see it is by booking a Jeep Safari at any of the hotels in Paphos, or through a local travel agent. It's a fabulous day out if you like nature and seeing wild life.

TROODOS MOUNTAINS: Clearly visible most days from High View Villa, they are about 36 miles away by road. At their highest point they are 1,952 metres above sea level. They stretch across the centre of Cyprus. Driving to the top you pass through villages too numerous to mention, but Omodos is worth a stop and so is Lania village where you'll find artists at work, and their paintings are for sale.

KAKOPETRIA:This place is at the top of Troodos on the road to Nicosia and around 10 minutes drive from Troodos village. Its chief attraction is the Old Mill with its waterwheel. This is a good lunch stop, and you can eat trout caught in the river outside. There are stunning views from Kakopetria.

LEFKARA:This is a place famed for its lace; where ladies sit in the streets and do folkweave, needle and crochet work. It's also a place for woodwork and basket work - things that visitors find attractive to take home as gifts. To get here you need to be on the motorway heading from Limassol to Nicosia. Lefkara is a pretty village with narrow streets and traditional style houses.

KHIROKITIA:This is the oldest settlement in Cyprus (7,500 - 3,900BC, the Neolithic Period). It is just off the motorway from Limassol to Larnaca. Here you can see one of the first villages constructed in Cyprus. You can also walk around the inside of circular houses which have been constructed to show how those first settlers to Cyprus lived. This is a designated World Heritage site.

NICOSIA:This capital city is well worth a visit even though it's around 90 minutes drive from Pissouri village. It is, however, mostly motorway driving. There's lots to see in this cosmopolitan city - up-market, expensive shops with world-famous designer labels; classy restaurants, arcades, art galleries and boutiques. There are walks around its walls, and large parts of the shopping area is pedestrionised.

SECRET VALLEY GOLF COURSE:And finally, fed up with shopping and sight-seeing, then head for this 18-hole course that's a Par 72. You can get temporary membership, and can hire golf clubs. This course is built around olive trees and orange groves and a lake. It's in a valley between two mountains. Yorkshire professional Steve Bottomley has played this course and tells us it is "playable" at its Par. To get there take the Paphos road from Pissouri. There's a turn off the motorway past Aphrodite's Rock signed for this club. There's a restaurant and shop, too.
