Property Details of Bahamas House
The house has 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, a large upper floor living and deck area, and a kitchen dining area on the ground floor. The walls and wood ceiling are all "pickled" cypress with a light tan finish. The living/dining area opening onto the upper deck overlooks the famous lighthouse and harbour. A Fully equipped kitchen, dining area and living room with TV, DVD and VHF. A 24 hour broadband internet access point and telephone with unlimited free calls to the USA and Canada. The house is spacious and furnished with three bedrooms, two queen beds and one twin bedded room. There are three bathrooms in total, two en-suite, a laundry room and a spacious deck to spend the evenings on. The kitchen is very well equipped for almost any of your needs and includes a blender, a microwave, coffee maker, a toaster and a dishwasher. There is a charcoal grill for your enjoyment. One bedroom has a queen-size bed and one bedroom has two singles, the third bedroom has two full size single bunk beds. Both baths have showers.. Towels, linens, and blankets are supplied, but beach towels are not.
Local Area DetailsElbow Cay itself is a four mile long island with Hope Town near its northern end. It has a picturesque, protected harbour dominated by the candy striped lighthouse which is a much photographed out island landmark. The village, located between a beautiful and safe Atlantic beach and the harbour, has about 250 permanent residents and is reminiscent of a New England fishing village set in the tropics. The main street, the Queen's Highway, is 8 feet wide and no cars are allowed in the village. There are two town docks for your use and a marina where gas can be purchased. There are two grocery stores (one with its own dock), two liquor stores, a bank one day a week, and a small drug store. A number of gift shops and artist studios. In town there is Captain Jack’s bar and restaurant, the Harbour's Edge and Club Soleil Bar. They all have their own docks so you can pull your boat up next to your table. Meals are “al fresco” under cover as well as inside. On Saturday and Wednesday and Friday nights there is live music at one of the bars. The Hope Town Harbour Lodge is on the edge of town and a great meeting place for lunch with its outdoor patio and freshwater pool under the palm trees. They also serve dinner overlooking the harbour and have live music and dancing some nights. Further restaurants and bars are available on the island and provide a courtesy taxi service
