La Petite Colline Modern Villa Stunning Outlook France

View of Ansouis Chateau from the Villa

Villa in Provence, France

Property Details of Provence Villa

Ansouis, officially designated one of Frances plus beaux villages, provides the pastoral yet majestic foreground for your stay at La Petite Colline. Situated on a rise amidst the vineyards and orchards of the Luberon Sud, the small villa, its several terraces, gardens, and large swimming pool all face the millenium-old Chateau dAnsouis perched atop the medieval village.

The home has every modern amenity, including a spacious open-plan salle de sjour with its airy living room. . . a large, tile-countered kitchen. . . a roomy dining space. . . and a separate stereo/TV/DVD area. Space and light abound, as do books, videos and CDs. One bedroom on the level below, and two more (or three, as needed) on the floor above, are each newly and colorfully decorated, quiet, and extremely private. Each sleeping level has its own full bathroom, with an extra WC-plus-sink on the upper level. Floors are tiled throughout, and (for October-to-April guests) radiantly heated. A separate office upstairs looks dramatically out on the Chateau and the village, as do the master bedroom and the salle de sjour on the main level.

The property itself is large, with tall trees on every side. It is entered through its private gate at the foot of the medieval village. Its cypress-lined driveway leads past a small meadow of lavender and rosemary, up past a small, flowered hillside, past the swimming pool terrasse, to the villas lower level. Entry to the home is either up the front-door steps or directly into the lower bedroom level. The upper patio, like the pool and its terrasse immediately below, dramatically faces the thousand-year-old (still occupied) Chateau dAnsouis atop the village. The shifting play of light between sky and chateau as the day progresses is compelling. The front patio itself, shaded by a large 300-year-old yew tree, leads around the gardened side of the villa to the private rear terrasse with its timbered planting beds beneath the wooded hillock that separates the estate from the vineyards behind it. Outdoor dining areas on the property are numerous.

Overall, La Petite Colline is light, airy, more casual than formal, very comfortable, and blessed by its spacious landscape, its sublime setting, and the Provenal sun.

Local Area Details

From La Petite Colline, a five-minute walk up into the village finds warm breads and other provisions at the local boulangerie; a broad selection of French and English-language newspapers at the friendly tabac; the local Bar des Sports; Les Moissines, a picturesquely terraced, outdoor brasserie; and La Closerie, one of the finest restaurants in the Luberon Sud. Ansouis has its own outdoor markets on Thursdays and Sundays. The Chateau itself arranges daily tours of the millenium-old interior and its gardens. Its ancient chapel, on the battlements overlooking the valley to the south and west, is open daily; as is the villages intriguing Muse Extraordinaire. The lanes and alleyways of the village themselves are full of unexpected vistas and architectural surprises.

Close at hand (only a 25-minute drive away) is practically everyones favorite ville in the south of France: Aix-en-Provence (founded by the Romans as Aquae Sextaie in 122 BC). Aix is the city of Cezanne, and home of the internationally renowned Aix Music Festival every July and August.

The Luberon itself has numerous, well-marked walking and biking trails, both in the valley and in the mountains. Several 18-hole golf courses are within easy reach, as are horseback riding facilities and trails. The villages of Cucuron (with its 800-year-old olive mill), La Tour dAigues, Cadenet, and Lourmarin (another of the plus beaux villages de France), are all within a ten-minute drive, as is the picturesque market town of Pertuis, where full shopping is available. Restaurants and outdoor cafs abound in the vicinity. The unique LArt Glacier, a hilltop ice cream heaven, with its terrace overlooking the entire Luberon Sud, is only ten minutes away from your vacation home at La Petite Colline.
