Haus Bellevue can be found in an idyllic location on the outskirts of St Michael in the heart of the Lungau Holiday Region of Austria.

The location ensures a peaceful stay with a feeling of being away from it all, yet the position is close enough to all the amenities that a car is not necessary. Within 10 minutes walk the town centre of St Michael offers numerous wonderful Cafes, Bakeries, Supermarkets, Restaurants and Shops.

Local Area Details

The Lungau Valley is one of Austria's best kept secrets enjoying little in the way of mass Tourism and yet with great facilities and opportunities to suit a great range of Holiday Makers.

The beautiful mountainous landscape provides the perfect place for outdoor activities and sports. In the Winter visitors enjoy several sizeable ski areas with much off-piste and cross-country ski tracks. You can also enjoy Horse-drawn Carriage Rides, Ice-skating on natural ponds, Snow Shoe Tours, Winter Walks, Sledging, Golfing (yes really - there is a Golf/Ski pass to those who are interested!), and of course there are numerous cosy Alpine Huts serving hot drinks and local delicacies to enjoy.

In the warmer months there is much opportunity to explore with countless Hiking and Walking Trails taking those who follow them on a sight seeing adventure to mountain lakes and waterfalls. Additionally there is a long stretch of well signed Nordic Walking paths, with purpose made warming/rest stations. To that there is also a wide array of Mountain Bike networks and Cycle trails, many of which begin just a few minutes of the accommodation. You can enjoy summer Golf in the Mountains, select from one of the many lovely Outdoor Swimming Pools, play Mini-Golf, visit Fun-Parks and Nature Reserves, go Fishing - there are even Children-Specific Fishing ponds, Play Tennis, go Horseriding and so much more.

If you are interested in the Historical Sites the valley has much to offer with beautiful Churches, Castles and local Museums. One of the more famous Churches has been undergoing constant restoration due to the weather conditions it is exposed to in it's open location on the mountainside. Its interior is quite incredible with unmissable carvings and art work that has to be seen to be believed. The Mauterndorf Castle is open almost all year round and is host to many Medieval festivals for both adults and children to enjoy. There you can also find one of the most well-recommended restaurants in the Valley.

The Valley is generally hot in Summer, colourful and still warm in Autumn, beautifully white and cold in Winter and awakens with flowers and greenery again for the Spring. About Skiing

The Ski Region Lungau is a veritable Snow Bowl with over 300km of downhill Piste spread accross 4 different regions. Snow Touring and Cross Country Skiing are also very popular in the valley with close to 200km of prepared Cross Country Tracks, 100km of Skating tracks and countless possibilities for Touring the less-known areas.

About Weather/Climate/Temperature

The Lungau Valley is known as the sunniest region of Austria. Summer temperatures can reach 40° during the day whilst in Winter the snow-bowl of a valley is a veritable snow sports paradise.

About Transport

Travel to and around the valley can be achieved with either car, taxi, bus or a mixture of train and bus/taxi depending upon your origin and destination. The valley bus runs at regular intervals throughout the summer months providing a useful transport network to sight seeers, walkers and mountain bike enthusiasts. Between December and April a free ski bus services the whole region. In general the public transport is exceptionally reliable. Walking is one of the greatest attractions to those visiting the Lungau Region. Nordic Walking is equally, if not even more popular and the Lungau features 11 clearly signed routes through Mauterndorf, St Margarethen, St Micahel, Unternberg and Ramingstein. Additionally the Nordic Fitness Park in Schönfeld provides further opportunities to experience various Nordic disciplines at heights of 1,740m above sea level. he town of Mariapfarr boasts the biggest certified network of Nordic Walking trails in Austria, with a total length of 120km and 15 clearly signed routes ranging from 3.1 to 14.5cm in length. About Shopping

The town of St Michael is host to a number of select shops selling clothing goods, sports articles and decorative hand made gifts and collectables. In the centre you can also find a good selection of bakeries selling local homemade delicacies. There are two large supermarkets within a few minutes of Haus Bellevue, several banks, coffee shops, bars, sports hire shops, chemists, a Car and Bike accessories dealer and a night club. For immediate needs within 200m of the accomodation the local general store sells non-perishables such as juice, crisps, wine and beer. In the same location fresh milk can also be purchased daily. Shops are generally open Monday to Saturday. The only place to purhase anything on a Sunday is one of the 2 local garages - 500m and 1.5km distance from the House. Here you can purchase tobacco, wine beer, chocolates and some frozen goods.
