Villa Óbidos is a modern new villa with Portuguese atmospheric elements and is situated at a parcel of ¾ hectares. The location is unique. It is the last house along a country road with 3 other country houses, 130 metres above sea level, so that that there is an unobstructed view on the medieval town of Óbidos. Adjacent to the town is the valley, the lagoon of Óbidos and beyond this the Atlantic Ocean. Villa Óbidos is easy to reach from Lisbon in about 50 minutes via the A8 motorway.
The house has a genuine Portuguese atmosphere, with its soft-yellow walls and its blue tints of the shutters outside and the floors inside. Outside you can relax on one of the two large verandas with deckchairs, or sunbathe on the roof terrace. Around the house there is a marble terrace. The dining-table and chairs and fixed barbecue give you the opportunity to eat outside.
The swimming pool (5x12 m), with its Roman stairs that slope down 2 metres into the water, is situated next to the terrace and 8 steps lower and is walled in at 2 sides. Reclining chairs, parasols and an outside shower are available.
The house itself has a comfortable living room (television with satellite, audio equipment, wooden stove), a modern and functionally equipped kitchen with all necessary domestic appliances. In the scullery there is a twin-tub washing machine. The whole house is fitted with floor heating.

The terrain has a lockable electric gate, and palms, lavender and oleander have been planted around the house.
Villa Óbidos is managed by a Portuguese resident who speaks French. The house is cleaned 2x a week. Linen for the bath, beds and the kitchen is available: this is changed 1x a week.
Pets are not allowed.
The site is unsuitable for children under 12 years.

Local Area Details

This delightful town of white houses adorned with bougainvillaeas and honeysuckle is entirely surrounded by medieval walls built by order of King Dom Fernando (14th century).
The town, which is forbidden to car traffic, is entered by various gateways, of which the most outstanding is the southern entrance, decorated with 18th century tiles.
The castle, situated at the highest point, was built by order of King Dom Dinis (14th century), who gave it as a wedding present to his wife Dona Isabel, the Holy Queen, and it now houses one of the most exclusive country-house hotels in Portugal, with only six rooms.
The nearby Óbidos Lagoon, the largest in Portugal, was originally an inlet on the coast, at a time when the sea used to bathe the foot of the hill on which the town of Óbidos is located.
As the sea gradually receded, this area was almost closed, becoming a favourite spot for fishermen due to the abundance of fish in its waters, and nowadays it is a popular summer resort.
The most important annual events in Óbidos are the celebrations in Holy Week (re-creating the steps on the Way of the Cross), and the Ancient Music Festival, which takes place in October.
