Eating and Drinking

There is so much on offer to eat and drink in Carate Urio and around the lake. This means you can choose to dress up or down and dine to suit your own pocket. We have tried to give a guide to both dress and budget for dinner in each of our choices.
In Carate Urio
Piccolo Orso Bruno - 10 minute walk.

Our village dinner favourite. Lovely couple. Great for morning cappucino, freshly squeezed juices, light lunches, pizzas & dinner. From €50/€100 inc wine for 2, dress only for dinner - if you like to! Book Fri/Sat to get front terrace table as it's busy.

La Creperie de Revaa - 8 minute walk

The view from the terrace is unbeatable. Our village lunch favourite. Suzy is in charge. Crepes, pastas & full lunch & dinner menu - pot luck, tasty & cheap as chips! Very casual, closed all day Tuesday.

Ristorante San Bernardo - 5 minute walk

Brilliant pizzas (carry out too). Other food, rustic but good. Family run, erratic. Quite casual for Italians. Mobbed at the weekends with locals. €45/€50 inc wine for 2.

Albergo Fioroni - 5 minute walk

Hang out over the water in the conservatory. Family run, old fashioned, peculiar service & menu, but nice food (nut gnocchi, lovely). Tourists & locals come. Dress to please you. About €45/€55 for 2 inc wine.

Outside Carate Urio

There simply isn't enough space to mention all the places we love. We hope you enjoy those we do include and that you also find your own favourites by wandering around.

Argegno

Argegno is really lively, especially on a Friday from around 6pm. Bar hop and sample some great wine and prosecco and soak it up with all the lovely nibbles everyone offers as standard. They are free so long as you keep drinking wine or coffee.
Tremezzo

The very best wine bar on the lake is called Cantina Folie in Tremezzo. They choose different wines each week to sell by the glass which allows you to taste expensive wines BEFORE you purchase a bottle to tkae home. They now do flovely but simple food too, try the 30 month aged parmesan with some walnuts & honey....

Il Timon has a good menu and the food lives up to it.



Cernobbio

The `must do' place to have a drink is Harry's Bar overlooking the lake. Try Tom and Jerry's (really) for simple fresh pasta and pizza.

About Transport

There are no sandy beaches around the lake but there are plenty of Lidos. Little inlets with shingles and here you can laze on a lounger and usually there is bar and food service.

About Children Activities

Lake Como and the surrounding area also offers kids a really great holiday too. A few of our small friends told us their favourite is the water park close by at the Swiss border and the Jungle Raider Park.

This adventure park is built in the trees of the Civenna Forest just 8 miles from Bellagio. A great day out for kids 120cm and taller.
