Included in the rental rate is unlimited use of our large private pool at Villa Marianna, 1.7 7 20 miles away. Albeit quite a distance, Villa Marianna is well worth a visit, if only for the restaurant, as well as the pool, where you can dine on truffles, steaks, porcini mushrooms drizzled with our own organic olive oil (officially stamped as such) as well as sample fine local wines, all at great rates. If you do not intend to have a car, you can hitch a lift from Laurie, my husband, who goes up to Villa Marianna regularly, and hitch a lift back from someone already up there – usually quite easy. Or, you can make specific arrangements to be picked up by Leonardo, our private chef at Villa Marianna, who will charge you very little, provided you eat lunch or dinner there – great rates for 1st class food eg truffles and the like – ask if you would like further details re the pool + restaurant at Villa Marianna. A car is unnecessary because there are busses a few minutes walk away and the train station is an easy 10 minutes walk. Terrazza Tetto is a fabulous elegant apartment with internet/WiFi facility. It has a pretty terrace with hill and roof-top views of old Spoleto. The apartment consists of an elegant sitting/dining room with hill views and French doors that open directly onto the terrace. A spacious apartment with a triple master bedroom (large double and a single) and a twin bedroom (the beds can be joined, by request), 1 shower room/WC, 1 bathroom with full-sized tub and hand-held shower/WC and a separate fully fitted kitchen. Terrazza Tetto is spacious and is smartly furnished throughout. In an historic pedestrian area known as "il borgo" ie the village, the apartment is in one of the oldest palazzos in Spoleto, the famous Rocca Dei Perugini, in the midst of bars, restaurants and shops. The Rocca Dei Perugini is home to some of the most important people of these parts.......judges, architects, a chief of police….. And, this famous palazzo is of immense historical significance for Spoleto because, just after the turn of the century, the Perugini conquered Spoleto and built the now-named Rocca dei Perugini as a strong-hold to guard their position and reign over the Spoletini. These were bloody times, indeed, for both the Spoletini and the Perugini because the Spoletini fought back by occupying the Torre Del’Olio just a few metres up the hill, a lane called Porta Fuga, and, there, they watched for the Perugini as they passed below, immediately dousing and killing them with burning oil. Just 2 years, and, many deaths by burning oil later, the Spoletini regained power in Spoleto and, ever since, Spoleto and Perugia have had an uneasy relationship ! All the apartments in the Rocca dei Perugini, a listed building, are serviced by a lift as well as a staircase. And, we have a private car space right next to the lift, in a private car-park that you can hire for 50 euros/week – the rate we pay the owner of the car-park. Having said that, it is quite easy to park in the nearby lanes, just a few minutes walk away. The Rocca dei Pergini is in “il Borgo” ie the village, in the very centre of things so that you only have to step out of the Roman Corridor entrance to the palazzo to find restaurants, bars and shops, all waiting to entice you in and sample their goodies. And, the local rates are very reasonable indeed, especially if you stick to the places we recommend on our information sheets that we leave in each of the apartments for all our guest. And, for those people without a car, the nearest pool is very large with picnic areas and a bar; and, there is a bus that takes you directly to this pool, which takes about 10 minutes. It stops at various points throughout Spoleto so that wherever you are staying, there will be a bus-stop conveniently placed for you. We are extremely excited about all our apartments and we think that once guests have experienced staying in any of our apartments, particularly those in Rocca dei Perugini, not to mention Penthouse On The Park or Il Parco (all excellent value and in fantastic locations) then, they will never want to go anywhere else on holiday, ever again !!!!
