House in Normandy, France
Property Details of Normandy House
Situated in the heart of the beautiful cobbled medieval quarter of Normandy's lovely and historic city of Bayeux, this 3 storey 13th Century town house is 200 yards from the famous gothic Cathedral and within very easy walking distance of the unique and fascinating Bayeux Tapestry as well as the City Museum, the 2nd World War Museum and the War Cemeteries. Centrally placed it is close to shops, bars and restuarants. The large stone house has enormous character and encloses a small, very charming traditional courtyard (with the added benefit of an outhouse!)Access to the living rooms and accomodation is via a stone, tiled spiral staircase-it's a property therefore unsuitable for the infirm or disabled.
Local Area DetailsBayeux is situated in the most beautiful part of Normandy in the Calvados countryside close to the historic war time landing beaches as well as lovely seaside towns and villages and numerous Chateaux. The region is famous for it's cheeses and dairy produce and of course it's cider and more importantly it's famed apple brandy named after the region 'Calvados'. Bayeux itself has a large bustling market square, lots of little galleries and craft and antique shops, numerous bars, cafes and restaurants and pretty parks. It is the perfect base for touring the Cote de Nacre, visiting those famous beaches and war museums, particularly Arromanche's extraodinary Mulberry Harbours, as well as the wonderful Chateaux and sleepy villages in the surrounding countryside. Bayeux is 15 minutes drive from Caen (home of William the Conqueror), 40 minutes from Ouistreham ferry port, 1 hour from Cherbourg ferries, 2 hours from Le Havre, 2.5 hours from Paris by train, 1.5 hours from Mont St Michel.
