The UNESCO World Heritage listed Tenryuji Temple is an 8 minute walk away. Other temples are such as Daikakuji temple(It was the villeage for the emperor), Seiryoji temple, Adashino Nenbutsuji temple, Jojakkoji temple, Nisonin temple and Rokuoin temple etc, which are possible to visit from the Arashiyama Hanare by walk. Other sights are very easily reached by the Randen line train, such as Ninnaji Temple, Ryoanji Temple, Kinkakuji Temple (Golden Pavilion) and Saihoji (Moss Temple.) Other nearby tourist attractions include the Saga "Romantic Train" old-fashioned diesel train which winds through the hills, as well as boat rental and white-water rafting, not to mention hiking, all located nearby. Out side of Kyoto, it is very easy to access other popular tourist spots such as Nara, Uji, Osaka, Himeji, Hiroshima etc by JR train since the JR train station (JR Saga Arashiyama Station) is five minutes walk away. A natural "onsen" hot spring (entrance fee just ¥1000) is just a 15 minute walk away. The Arashiyama Hanare was built on before 1935, and was completely restored in November 2008. The restoration was a labor of love, requiring the participation of artisans specializing in traditional carpentry techniques, and using natural materials in all areas both inside and out. Great efforts were made to recreate an atmosphere which will allow guests to experience the traditional way of living. An added modern touch for comfort is the luxurious bathing area and bathroom...where you can soak in the oversized tub while gazing at the Zen garden, after a full day of sightseeing. The Arashiyama Hanare is just behind the main house, but has an independent entrance and accommodation are completely separated. The total space is 55 square meters. Near the entrance is the original old Japanese style kitchen which has basic facilities for cooking. The floor of the kitchen is made of "tataki," a traditional mixture of "shikkui" and soil. There are two tatami rooms, one 3 mats, and the other 6 mats. Two to three guests can be accommodated on futons, which can be placed on the floor of either room. The Arashiyama Hanare shares a "Zen garden" called Nakaniwa, with the main house. The owners live in the main house. Owners speak English, and are happy to provide assistance during the stay. One of the owners is an "Ikebana" master, and flower arrangements will welcome guests upon arrival. There's easy access to all of the sightseeing spots in central Kyoto. The train station (JR Saga Arashiyama Station) is five minutes walk away, and from there it's 10-15 minutes to Kyoto Station. Another train station "Randen Saga" is three minutes walk away. The Arashiyama Hanare offers an opportunity to experience Kyoto life in a very special part of the city, living in a typical Kyoto silent neighborhood. In the days when the ancient capital was located in Nara, Arashiyama was known as a pleasure resort for the Emperor and his court people. Since then, it has always attracted people with it's scenic beauty and seasonal colors, particularly the cherry blossoms of the Spring, and the changing leaves of the Autumn. You can spend your personal time in this space where the Arashiyama Hanare is intimate. Please have a look more details in our website! http://arashiyamahanare.jimdo.com/
