Property Details of Normandy Gite
Our 250 year old converted cider barn is perfect for an escape to the tranquility and calm only found in the French countryside. It is the perfect place to relax and chill out and consists of two double bedrooms, large kitchen and separate dining and sitting areas and is situated across the old apple orchard away from our separate farmhouse.
Local Area DetailsThe nearest town of Percy is 2 miles away and contains a couple of small restaurants, a supermarket, various shops and a couple of doctors and a dentist should the need arise. The much larger town of Villedieu-les-Poeles and the A84 motorway is only 6 miles and the nearest beach is 18 miles. So all in all, we're well catered for.
Additional InformationAbout BeachesSafe, sandy beaches are only 30 minutes drive away and locals mussels are grown along the shore which are considered some of the best in France.
WW2 landing beaches, the Bayeux tapestry and many museums are a 45 minute drive on the opposite side of the peninsula.
The more rocky beaches are found up towards the North of the peninsula.
About Local RestaurantsVilledieu-les-poeles has approximately 18 eateries, catering for all tastes. There are many fish restaurants along the coast and the area is well known for it's fruits de mer and local produce. But if you are in doubt we have a vast knowledge of local restaurants and where and when to find the best in season - just ask!
About WalkingWalking is easy along the quiet country lanes but be warned you may encounter a stray cow or tractor! The local area has many sign-posted walks for various grades of walker and the river Vire has its own towpath which is suitable for walking, biking, canoeing or horse-riding - the choice is yours.
About Tourist BoardPercy has its own Tourist information office where you can visit and pick up more information on anything in the area that appeals to your idea of a great holiday. From walking, sea activities, local food and cuisine to markets and places to visit.
About HistoryThe Norman history in this area is vast and there are many abbeys, museums and buildings of great interest to suit everyone. The 11th century town of Villedieu-les-Poeles is famous for its copper and pewter-ware and is just 6 miles away from our front door.
World War II had a dramatic effect on the area. You could easily spend all your holiday visiting sites, museums and cemeteries, following the trail of what went on during and after of the landings of the allied forces.
About FerriesWe are easily reached by ferries from Cherbourg, Caen, Le Havre, St Malo, Dieppe and from further afield, Boulogne and Calais. The best prices are from the furthest and travelling from Calais can take up to 4.5hrs but well worth the drive along the superb French motorway.
About General EntertainmentIf the sea is not for you, then swimming pools and saunas are available in nearby Villedieu and further afield Granville.
Our nearest town of Villedieu-les-Poeles has many entertaining museums and places of interest to hold your attention and the local cinema sometimes has English speaking films on offer.
About ShoppingIf it's shopping you're after then Granville is the place for you. Local markets are held every day of the week in high season so if you miss one, you can always catch another in a different town!
