At this is a charming retreat with Scandinavian heritage, you will find a simple, but relaxing and cozy atmosphere without the distraction of televisions or telephones in the guestrooms. Each room has a queen size bed and a private bathroom.

Like the valleys of Southern Norway, Dahlonega is reminiscent of by-gone days, centuries removed from much of the world today. The Royal Guard Inn was named after the original innkeeper's grandfather who was the Captain of the Royal Guard for the Norwegian King circa 1880, and offers just the right combination of European sophistication and American charm.

Afternoon tea is served from 3 to 6 pm on the wraparound porch, offering a view of one of the town's beautiful residential streets on the tour route followed by the horse-drawn carriages.

Breakfast is prepared fresh daily in the inn's kitchen and served on the wrap-around porch (as weather permits) or in the dining room. Begin with coffee or tea, juice, and fruit before savoring such delicacies as Suzanne's blueberry pancakes, Steve's apple-pecan waffles, Farris's Scandinavian egg & sausage casserole, home-made muffins or scones, as well as the traditional side dishes.

Local Area Details

Re-live the original Gold Rush by touring a gold mine and panning for treasured nuggets yourself. Dahlonega is also home to wonderful antique, craft, and pottery shops, as well as many fine, quaint restaurants.

Canoeing and kayaking are available nearby, as is tubing for a more leisurely pace. Hike or mountain bike to beautiful waterfalls, horseback ride on scenic trails, or simply relax with a day of fishing or golf. NASCAR fans can enjoy visiting Bill Elliott's museum.

Also, two of Dahlonega's best kept secrets: music & theatrical productions at the historic Holly Theatre and North Georgia College & State University (both a lovely walk from the Inn).
