Places to visit

From the villa in Los Marines, the Costa del Sol stretches from Gibraltar in the West to beyond the beaches of Nerja in the east. There are many charming coastal areas. The mountains and hills are wild and staggeringly beautiful.

In the foothills nestles the hamlet of Los Marines and the charming town of Periana situated at 547 metres above sea level there are excellent views from the town down towards lake Vinuela and the sea beyond best seen from the viewing point near the new town hall. Dominating the scenery around Periana is Mount Maroma. At some 2080 metres 6800 feet it is the largest mountain in Malaga province.

A particularly pretty spot is the place where the river Guaro is begins. Another place to be visited is the spa at Baos de Vilo built in 1823 and later abandoned The sulfurous waters of the spa apparently very beneficial. Also excellent are the two important examples of local agriculture and of Perianas economy peaches and olive oil. The fame of these two products has traveled far beyond regional confines.

The lower hillsides are cultivated with olive almond citrus pomegranate and carob trees. Mimosa grows wild flowering in the winter and scenting the air with its sweet blooms. There are many typical Spanish coffee and tapas bars and menu of the day is offered in most.

You will find a doctor, physiotherapist and a pharmacist. Supermarkets tobacconist, bakers, butchers and clothes shops. A post office is also present. Only open until 11:00am. They also have a weekly market.

Los Marines

This is a typical Spanish hamlet and is only an hour or two away from some of Spain's greatest and most awe inspiring treasures the rocky fortress town of Ronda and the Moorish splendors of Granada Seville and Cordoba. Also Camaris the town on a hill which can be seen from the villa.

The locals are really friendly they love to stop and chat. You will often hear the bells from the goats being shepherded across the land near the villa.

Nerja

This is on the coast where the weather the year round has attracted sun lovers since Phoenician, Roman and Carthaginian times. It is still one of the most attractive resorts with a cheerful family atmosphere.
The Balcon de Europa is a palm fringed promontory that reaches out over the sea looking towards Africa providing a vantage point from which to survey the coastline not to mention the local population promenading each evening for el paseo. The streets meander through Nerjas pedestrian old town bustling cheerfully with cafes restaurants shops and lively bars. Lazy days can be enjoyed on long sandy beaches lying at the foot of dramatic rocky cliffs and bordered by bars and restaurants or on more secluded sandy coves. Playa Burriana just outside the town centre is the largest and most popular beach with its rocky cliffs falling abruptly down to the sand.

The astounding prehistoric caves the Cuevas de Nerja near Maro with their Neolithic art and more grizzly recent remains are well worth visiting. For those interested in music and dance the vibrant annual fiesta takes place in early October. Flamenco is sometimes performed in the bars in Nerja and Frigiliana has its own award winning troupe. Inland from Nerja lie Mountains with impressive scenic roads snaking past whitewashed villages perched precariously on Mediterranean hillsides. Here some sensational national parks and a little touched environment can be found.

Frigiliana

This is rightly proud of its reputation as one of the most beautiful white hill villages of Andalucia just 4 miles inland from Nerja and its beaches. The area is surrounded by olive tree and grape vine covered slopes and by weathered boulders and plunging ravines which reveal glimpses of the shimmering sea. Nearby the whitewashed hamlets retaining much of their historic charm provide a soothing contrast to the pressure of urban living. Frigiliana is none the less well endowed with small shops bars and rustic restaurants Where they have bowed to the pressure to expand it has been achieved with unusual sensitivity.

Places to eat

There are many places to eat but one in particular is Cantueso which you will find as you head out from Periana. It is about 15 minutes drive from the villa. Spanish Cuisine - Dine in style in a traditional Spanish Finca with exceptional sea lake and mountain views. Relaxing inside or on one of the two terraces you can enjoy Mediterranean food at its best Prices range between 450 to 8 euros for starters, mains between 10 and 20 euros.

There are many beaches to choose from all within 30 to 45mins.

Baviera Golf

The most easterly golf course in the province, Baviera Golf is situated 2km east of Torre del Mar on the coastline municipality of Velez Malaga, with magnificent views of the Mediterranean and the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Designed by twice World Champion Jose Maria Cañizares, this 18 hole, par 72 course was opened in 2000, is 5910m long and presents an ideal challenge for all types of handicap and both novice and professional players.

Baviera Golf consists of mainly level and wide fairways of 80 to 90 m wide without climbs or drops, with short holes, fast, large wide greens of an average 700m with slopes and swales and an abundant selection of interesting water features. The course has some surprises in store to keep players on their toes and intelligence and strategy are the name of the game here.

El Pantano is only 15 minutes drive from the villa. Cantueso only about 15 minutes drive. Spanish Cuisine: Dine in style in a traditional Spanish Finca with exceptional sea, lake, and mountain views. El Canuela only 20 minutes drive. This is a beautiful typically Spanish restaurant. It has spectacular views on a clear sunny day.

About Local Attrcations

Comaris the town on the hill has specatular views. Alhambra palace in Granada is a must to see. There are many beach towns and inland that are beautiful and full of history. El Churro is a must to see and the lakes surrounding it.

About Children Activities

There are two aqua parks, one in Velez only 20 minutes away and the other in Mijas, around an hour and 15 minutes drive. The villa has a table tennis table. And many suitable board games and a few toys.

About Family Activities

There are many beach towns already mentioned that do inflatables and many child activities. There is a small climbing frame area in Periana and a park. There is a sea life to visit and a marina in Benalmedena
