Le Contadour Apartment (Haunt of poets and artists), is a charming,romantic, provencal villa built on six terraces covered with ancient olive, lemon, fig,and other fruit trees. It stands 250 m. above the Var Valley, with extraordinary open views south, to the Mediterranean beyond. The architect designed apartment within the villa is south facing, and consists of an elegant beamed sitting-room with dining area, and french-windows opening onto the south terrace. It is furnished with antiques, and original art works by resident artist. There is a satelite tv with DVD/video player, and a large video and DVD library of the latest films is included. The provencal, fully-equiped kitchen is complete with dishwasher, microwave, washing-machine, fridge-freezer, oven, hob and even a teapot, in fact, everything to make life easy!It opens onto a beautiful romantic private terrace with ancient olive and lemon trees, ideal for outdoor dining under the stars.
There are two comfortable bedrooms, one with twin-beds (or can convert to a large double),with french-windows opening onto the south-facing balcony and the second, a provencal pretty room with two single beds. Both share a large modern shower room and toilet.
A lovely pool completes the picture with bbq. and pizza oven, surrounded by exotic flowers and olive trees, plus a stone poolhouse with bar. Every comfort has been carefully thought out to help you to enjoy your stay at Le Contadour.
Local Area DetailsGattieres is a charming perched medieval village, completely unspoiled by tourism. It is a 10 min. walk from the villa and has an ancient medieval church with fine art works, a supermarket, three wonderful restaurants and outdoor bars, an excellent bakery cum coffee shop, a colourful butchers shop, pharmacy, post office, and a boules area where you can watch timeless village life. In July, a professional opera company performs in the local village square and numerous cultural events take place during the year from the Fete de Soup au Pistou (a great local dish) to concerts in the old church.
Nice Airport and the coast is a 20 min. drive away, and Gattieres is centrally situated to visit many famous coastal resorts such as Monaco, Cannes with its film festival in May, and the lovely old town of Antibes, where one can view the million dollar yachts of famous people (and dream!). The motorway to Italy is a 15 min. drive away and one can drive to the Italian border in under an hour.The mountain villages are numerous and fascinating to visit. The little provencal railway nearby will take you on a wonderful trip up the mountains. Those of you who love walking, and nature, will find the area fascinating with many lovely walks in the surrounding hills. The Mercatur National Park is a 45 minute drive away with its lakes, mountains, flora and fauna.For golfers, there are a number of courses in the area.
The city of Nice, is packed with both cultural and touristic pleasures, and its old town has a renowned flower market daily. Along the coast one is charmed by the little fishing ports. There are 45 kms. of beaches to explore with craggy cliffs and coves. St. Laurent du Var is the closest beach, and has a charming promenade with promenade cafes and bars overlooking the yacht marina.You will find that there is something for every taste, this being the play-ground of the Riviera.
