Askrigg was the location for BBC series 'All Creatures Great & Small'. This old market town had thirteen shops, but since Hawes gained a market charer, Askrigg became a village of about 300 residents with holiday cottages. There is now a post office with newsagents, general food shop with cafe and a delicatessen/take away called HumblePie.There are two pubs for food and a gourmet restaurant. There are foot paths arond the village to the waterfalls, on to the fells and won to the river. Hawes is 5 miles away for shopping and wekly market.It is the home of Wallace & Gromit cheese and ropemaking. A mile away is Bainbridge with its large village green, site of a roman camp and long roman road. Aysgarth has famopus waterfalls and nearby is Bolton Castle with is vineyard and maze.
