Welcome to ....The Prince Regent Showman's Carriage.
The Prince Regent Showman's Carriage, a holiday retreat in Sussex looks over to Bodiam Castle and is located in the Bodiam Valley in East Sussex. It is a completely unique and a couples only holiday retreat.
Located in 1066 country close to the Kent border, in 200 acres of farmland and orchards there are plenty of country walks and local villages to visit during your stay. This is the perfect place to stay for a birthday, anniversary or just a treat to get away from it all for the weekend.
The immediate surroundings include well kept extensive lawns and borders with seating and croquet for your pleasure.
The carriage is available to rent from late March to the end of October. We offer 3 night weekend breaks from a Friday to Sunday or 4 night mid week breaks from Monday to Friday morning.
Inside:
The carriage was originally built in 1894 as a fairground owners home which toured in the West Country and has been lovingly preserved by the present owners to include beautiful mahogany woodwork and crystal ornate mirrors. The inside is cosy with seating for 2 in front of a vintage tiled fireplace with imitation log burner. There are plenty of home comforts, books, ornaments, TV, DVD and Hi Fi.
To one end of the carriage is the bedroom with a fixed raised bed. The bed is smaller than a normal double but this adds to the romantic feel! White lace bedlinen and painted woodwork make this a truly cosy hideaway.
Outside :
The carriage is approached via steps onto a raised decking area which has an overhead enclosed veranda with views into the valley and across to Bodiam castle. The decking area has outside seating with comfortable wicker chairs and a table for a relaxing breakfast or evening glass of wine!
The kitchen and bathroom facilities are located in two separate adjacent buildings immediately outside of the carriage. The thatched kitchen/diner is fully equipped for self catering during your stay, complete with sink, small cooker, fridge,storage cupboards and a railway carriage style small table . The windows can be left wide open during warmer days but also allowing meals to be prepared in comfort but undercover when the weather is not so good. On the opposite side of the deck is the bathroom/wet room with WC, sink and shower.
Dog Welcome by Prior Agreement - there are dog kennels for the animals to stay in. There is a £20 dog fee, per dog, per week.
Local Area DetailsHoliday Cottages in Bodiam East Sussex
Located in the heart of 1066 Country, Bodiam is a small village that boasts one of the finest castles in Sussex. Dating back to the late fourteenth century, Bodiam Castle is an exquisite example of a late medieval moated fort. Now looked after by the National Trust it makes for an interesting day out with special events being staged throughout the year. The villages other claim to fame is its long association with the hop growing industry with hops being grown here for Guinness in the 19th century. A Railway line was built for transporting the hops and in recent years has been restored and is now a popular tourist attraction with steam trains running from Bodiam to the Kent town of Tenterden. There are also river trips available on a charming ferry boat along the river Rother to Newenden.
The delightfully peaceful village of Bodiam also contains a restaurant, two schools, a twelfth century church, a pub and a small number of houses.
Just across the border is the village of Sandhurst with its well known restored smock windmill. The local Sandhurst vineyards produce a popular selection of wines.
Bodiam makes for an interesting day trip out during your stay in any of our cottages in Sussex or Kent.
