Welcome to The Patch, a relaxing bed and breakfast, self catering or short letting experience in KwaZulu/Natal. The Patch is a perfect place to begin and end a holiday in South Africa. Situated on the northern side above the City of Pietermaritzburg, on a quiet and peaceful acre plot tucked away in the forest mist belt below World's View. The Patch is a bird and butterfly lover's paradise. Indigenous and exotic epiphytic orchids grow throughout the property. Guests can enjoy the planned orchid walk meandering through the trees. From the garden guests can also access one of the last remaining virgin grasslands in Pietermaritzburg, explore the Voortrekker trails leading down from Worlds View and the conservation forest trails. The Patch has three en-suite serviced units, each suitable for a family of four and offers a bed and breakfast or self catering short stay venue. Feedback from visitors and regular returning guests to The Patch confirms our belief that our model of clean, comfortable and reasonably priced accommodation are the ingredients for a successful short stay accommodation venue.
The three suites are:-
Pula (Rain) Suite with bathroom opens onto the pool courtyard.
Isicephu (Sleeping Mat) Suite comprising two twin bedded rooms and shower room, opens onto the terrace and garden. Lala Kahla (Sleep Well) cottage is a separate garden cottage comprising two twin bedded rooms (one with a kitchenette facility), and a shower room.

Local Area Details

The Patch is one hour from the subtropical coastal resorts of Durban, Umshangla, Balito and two hours from the majestic Drakensberg Mountains. Individual historical and game viewing holidays can be arranged at one of the many KwaZulu-Natal Game reserves. The world renowned Umfolozi Game Reserve (3 hours) where the White Rhino was saved from extinction is a popular excursion. Explore the battlefields of Colenso (1 hour), Isandhlwana and Rorke's Drift (2 hours) or spend a day or two in the Natal Midlands (30 minutes), enjoying fly fishing, a round of golf or just meandering on the famed arts and craft route. The Patch is conveniently 5 minutes from the famous Victoria Country Club golf Course.
