Property Details of Costa del Sol Apartment
The Dona Lola holiday resort is at Calahonda on the Costa del Sol, set right beside the sea amid heavily scented gardens, swaying palms and waterfalls, in a climate which enjoys 320 days of sunshine per year.
This spacious, three bedroom, air-conditioned penthouse apartment has superb un-interrupted views of the sea from it's large Southerly facing balcony.
From this third(top) floor vantage point, fishing boats can be seen leaving the beach in the morning, and perhaps struggling against the waves when returning a few hours later. Larger boats and ships are constantly appearing on, and disappearing from, the horizon. A dining-table and 6 chairs are provided on the balcony, and you're within easy reach of the cold drinks in the fridge, and the cooler air-conditioned rooms within, if things get too hot!
I have decorated the lounge with a nautical theme in mind, in keeping with the location. My own collection of shells from all over the world is displayed on genuine Spanish drift-wood "claimed" from nearby beaches !
The spacious lounge has comfortable setees for 6 people, and large TV with DVD etc., and dining area with 6 comfortable chairs.
Turning left through the door from the lounge leads towards the fully fitted kitchen, brand new in 2006, with full-size cooker & hob, microwave, kettle, 2 sinks, giant fridge / freezer, dishwasher and washing-machine. From the brightly decorated corridor, next left leads into the first of the 3 double bedroom. Next to that is the first of the two fully fitted bathrooms, complete with a powerful shower over the bath. Continuing along the second double bedroom, and finally the master bedroom with en-suite, and beautiful sea views from both windows. Massive wardrobes in all three bedrooms provide more than ample storage space.
Local Area DetailsThe outdoor swimming pool on the Dona Lola holiday complex is magnificent. It's 270 feet from one end to the other, and starts in the children's pool. This is the perfect spot to keep an eye on the youngsters as you relax around the pool on the loungers. The pool then meanders along the beach-side, past the pool-side restaurant, and under two beautiful white sculptured bridges. This really is a wonderful place to just relax, listening to the sea lapping just below. A wide range of good value food and drinks are available from the pool-side terrace restaurant, and there are regular barbecues. In the Summer months there are demonstrations here of such things as paella and Spanish-Omelette making !
The beach is just a few steps down from the pool-side. There are good areas for snorkelling very close by. You can walk along the beach for as long as you want from here, in both directions. Walking right for thirty minutes will take you to the attractive harbour village of Cabopino ( where the beach and harbour shots were taken for "Elderado" ) with a very nice beach-bar, and a few "posher" restaurants. Walking left for half an hour will take you to La Cala, a more typically Spanish sea-side village with nice beach, loads of bars, and good-value restaurants. There are beach-bars within a ten minute walk of Dona Lola in both directions.
Calahonda is ideally situated between Fuengirola and Marbella (both 10 minutes drive away) making it a favourite destination for holiday-makers in Spain. It's facilities are second to none, with an excellent bus service, a wide variety of shops, bars, restaurants, medical centres, sports complexes, a picturesque marina, and two golf-courses.
Dona Lola is a prestigeous "Gold-Crown" holiday complex. This is of great advantage to guests renting my apartment. It means that the facilities provided here are to a very high standard, and, along with the grounds, are maintained in tip-top condition all year round.. It is a safe and secure complex for children to roam. The Dona Lola resort offers an extensive range of sports and leisure activities, both indoor and outdoor. There are two flood-lit tennis courts, and an indoor leisure centre with heated pool, spa bath, saunas, steam rooms and gym. There is an "over 18's" outside pool in a lovely sheltered spot near "Barbrass, our bar-bistro. For the less energetic there two snooker tables. There's an area suitable for children to gather, with pool tables. For the ladies there's a launderette (joke, honest) and a health & beauty salon where you can avail yourself of "Frigi-thalgo", "Thermic slimming", "Algae-wrapping", "Bust strengthening", and all manner of bodily improvements. On the nearby beaches at Cabopino you can try water-skiing, jet-biking, sailing, and wind-surfing. A huge range of boat-towed inflatables can be hired, and dolphin trips aboard a trimaran yacht can be booked. Ten minutes drive away, at "Funny Beach", near Marbella, there's an aquatic version of bumper cars, along with go-karts, mini-bikes, paintball, kiddy cars, trampolines, a giant-sized "Scealectric", and bungy-jumping.
There's a diving school at Torreblanca, horse-riding at Fuengirola, quad-biking, bowling at very nearby Miraflores, water-parks at Torremolinos & Fuengirola, a superb fantasy-world theme park ("Tivoli World"), suitable for all ages, and a casino, at Benalmadena, and even a cable-car up a nearby mountain.
The Costa del Sol is well known as "the "Golfer's Paradise". Of the 35 courses within easy reach by car, a dozen are within 20 minutes drive! It is a magnificent place to play throughout the year. There is a small but comprehensively stocked shop just a minutes walk from my apartment, and a bakers, and two large supermarkets just across the main road. Around them there's a full range of other shops including cyber / cafes, beachwear shops, two banks, and a medical centre. There are markets selling fresh produce at Marbella on Mondays, and Fuengirola on Tuesdays. Puerto Banus and Estepona have flea markets for antique bargain hunters on Saturday and Sunday mornings respectively, and there's a giant car-boot sale at Fuengirola on Saturdays.
There is most certainly not a shortage of bars and restaurants. Within a three minute walk from my apartment there is a choice of five bars, and several restaurants -including Chinese, English, Indian, Spanish, and an-day buffet. Within a further five minutes walk to the left of the complex is a very cheap Spanish "tappas" bar, along with an incredibly good-value Hong Kong Restaurant. Five minutes walk further on there's a Macdonalds! There is of-course our own pool-side restaurant, and across the road, and within easy walking distance, there are numerous other local bars and restaurants. Within a short drive there are theme restaurants at Cabopino, and upmarket restaurants towards Marbella. With the exception of those last mentioned, they offer amazing value for money.
There is a Children's club, with it's own room, and a great variety of activities are arranged for all ages throughout the day in the high season, ranging from 5-a-side football, to French "Boules". You can even learn how to speak Spanish ! Free and regular evening entertainment is provided. Disco's are organised for the youngsters. There are lively theme bars, karaoke bars, and late bars just across the foot-bridge, (5 minute walk), and a host of night-clubs in nearby Fuengirola & Marbella.
Entertainment abounds in this sunny playground. In short, there's everything here that you could possibly want from a Spanish holiday, and most of it is right on your doorstep.
I arrange the bookings myself, so just give me a ring, or send me an email or fax with your address if you wish to make one. I ask for 30% deposit, and the balance payable 8 weeks before your holiday. The cleaning of my apartment, the laundry, repairs, and replacement of faulty items of furniture and equipment, is organised for me by a local firm. This is an extremely beneficial arrangement for my guests because if you have any sort of problem there is someone to help. So rest assured that if something goes wrong when you are on your holidays, either with you, your family or friends, or the apartment, there is someone local, English-speaking, and friendly to help!
After a short drive (15 mins) you could be sipping cocktails whilst watching the activity in Puerta Banus, a lively place with many restaurants, clubs and designer boutiques around a beautiful marina of luxury yachts. This is the in-place to rub shoulders with celebrities and those with extreme wealth. One of the most well known of the nearby resorts, with it's wide sandy beaches, many bars, clubs, restaurants, and up-market shops, is Marbella (10 mins drive). At the centre of a maze of narrow shopping street in the old town, is Orange Square, dating back to 1848. Travelling inland brings you to the white villages of real Spain such as Mijas and Casares. You can drive up the cliff-hugging road to Ronda straddling a gorge, and visit it's bullring which is over 200 years old. Gibralter makes an interesting day trip, -take a cable car to the Rock for spectacular views and see the Barbary apes, then shop in Marks & Spencers!, and the many duty free shops. (200 fags £7:50!) Day trips to Jerez, Seville, and Tangier are also possible.
If you take an out of season holiday, you're only two and a half hours away from the ski slopes of the Sierra Nevada, and it's not that expensive !
A wide variety of excursions are arranged by the Dona Lola reception. They even run their own buses to such places as Gibralter, Mijas, Puerto Banus, Ronda, and the water-park and market at Fuengirola etc.

Payments normally by cheque, or bank to bank transfer. PAYPAL accepted, but with a 3% surcharge (that's less than they charge me !)
In the event of a holiday needing to be cancelled, I ask to be advised as soon as possible, whereupon I will use my best endeavours to re-let. If I can re-let, I will return your deposit, less any expenses incurred for additional advertising etc.
I strongly advise that cancellation insurance is taken out. |
