The Villa.
-simple and unpretentious, with high beamed ceilings and window shutters; well equipped and simply but tastefully furnished
-3 bedrooms (1 double, 2 twin) all with fitted wardrobes
-lounge, dining area with large extendable table and six chairs, Hi-Fi, games, cassettes, CD's, information file and books
-We have elected to have no TV, for greater relaxation and sociability and there is no telephone.
-kitchen: well equipped, including electric kettle, toaster, sandwich maker, food processor and coffee maker, gas hob, combination convection/grill/microwave oven, fridge/freezer, iron and board, and all the necessary cleaning equipment.There is no washer or dish-washer, as we believe these to be wasteful of water and frankly unnecessary for short stays.
-bathroom with bath and simple shower, loo, bidet and basin

Outdoors:
-tables and chairs, picnic and garden bench, parasol, and sun-loungers
-built-in BBQ next to the pool
-terracotta terraces to the front and beside the private swimming pool, a rear yard, gardens and natural land with olive, fig, citrus, peach, almond, eucalyptus, mimosa, pomegranate, bamboo and native broom (Please help yourself to fruit in season!)

Local Area Details

Location.
Nestled in the mountains below the Sierra Tejada National reserve, is the picturesque Andalucian village of Canillas de Aceituno, 60 mins. from Malaga airport and 20 mins. from the coastal resort of Torre del Mar. The village has typically Moorish layout with narrow, winding streets of whitewashed houses, decorated with bougainvillea, jasmine and geraniums. On the hillsides you will see olives, almonds, citrus, figs, vineyards, white triangles which form headstones for raisin drying beds and a light dusting of white buildings.
Our villa is just outside Canillas and is reached by a 2km road (nearly all tarmac but the last 100m rough), passing the boundary of the reserve. It has views onto vineyards, citrus groves and natural hillsides. The majestic peak of Mount Maroma, which is occasionally snow-capped, stands 2065m above. We call our villa �Bajo la Maroma�, (beneath Maroma).
If you are looking for a restful holiday but wish to be handy for the airport, this could be the place for you. The buzz of a coastal resort, is within twenty minutes drive.

You can walk to:
-the bat cave, Cueva de la Fajara, passing an old mill and pool, lovely for a dip on a hot day!
-old Moorish water sources and aqueducts
-We have a series of 5 guides at the villa, which describe many other walks in the local area
-awesome caves in the pleasant resort of Nerja
-Aqua Park 15mins away in Velez-Malaga
-horse riding and go-karting
-at the coast: pedalos, jet-ski and restaurants galore
-golf at the Baviera course
-Torrox costa and Torre del Mar, both have promenades with restaurants
-for a more dramatic coastline with steep cliffs, visit La Costa Tropical, between Nerja and Almunecar

If you prefer to stay away from it all, then the inland area is littered with tiny, whitewashed villages and bars just waiting to be explored!
Of course you can always go nowhere! In spring listen to hoopoo, frogs and nightingales, find wild orchids, smell the orange blossom; in summer swim in the pool, sunbathe, or sit in the shade of the carob tree, hear the goats and sheep, with their bells, as they meander across the hillsides and watch shooting stars by night........

If you are lucky enough to be in Spain July and August, you may catch the Horse Fair, funfair and food fair in Torre or the traditional village Fiestas in Alcaucin or Canillas and the grand fiesta and feria in Malaga. July also sees the International Festival at Nerja caves (ballet, opera, flamenco) and the International Jazz Festival in Almunecar.
There are many other festivals throughout the year and you should look on the web sites.

If you enjoy nature, photography, painting or writing, then the world is your oyster.
All in all, if you want space and tranquillity, with things to do close at hand if you should care to do them, then this is the place for you!
