Local Area Details

The village of Samoens is a listed historic site and holds a "Coq d'Or" award as one of the 5 most beautiful villages in France. It is approx 1 hours drive from Geneva airport.

Skiing

Samoëns is part of an extensive skiing area (260km of slopes) that includes Flaine, Morillon, Les Carroz, and Sixt-Fer-A-Cheval which is connected to Flaine by the 14km Piste des Cascades. The Piste des Cascades runs through the nature reserve, and was recently recognised as one of the most picturesque runs in France. The nearest ski lift to the village is the new Grand Massif Express Ski lift which takes you up to Samoens 1600 in under ten minutes. The ski lift is just over 10 minutes walk from the apartment. In addition the village is 20 minutes drive from Les Gets which has access to the vast Portes du Soleil 560km ski area.
The Grand Massif ski area has a magnificent setting with superb panoramic views of Europe's highest mountain Mont Blanc. It has everything needed to cater for skiers of all abilities from Alpine skiing, extensive off piste, monoski, telemark, cross country, snowboarding including Jam Parks, snow shoes to explore hidden-away views, skating, parapenting, ice climbing, caving, dog sledging and skidoo safaris.

Summer Activities

Samoens is a very popular French summer holiday resort which is a centre for almost every outdoor activity; rock climbing, canyoning, canoeing, rafting, mountain biking, horse riding, fishing and parapenting are all very popular. Information about all of these activities can be obtained from the Bureau des Guides or the Tourist Information Office, both of which are in the village. Maps and suggested routes are available for both mountain walking and mountain biking. The Giffre river, cascading from Sixt through spectacular gorges to Samoens and on to Morillon, provides a picturesque setting for water sports activities.
A large park on the edge of the village offers tennis courts, lakes for fishing and boating, and an open air swimming complex with 3 pools and a water slide. Samoens also has a large botanical garden which displays over 4000 species of alpine plants and trees collected from all over the world.

Excursions/Day trips:

Switzerland and Lake Geneva with the beautiful resorts of Thonon les Bains, Evian and the ancient walled town of Yvoire are a one hour drive away, and the charming town of Annecy, often called the "Venice of the Alps" is a similar distance. An hours drive towards Chamonix will take you to the Tunnel of Mont Blanc and into Italy.
