Property Details of Costa de Almeria Apartment

Fully fitted and equipped DUPLEX (living room, kitchen, bathroom and bedroom on ground floor; two bedrooms and bathroom on first floor with private terrace. The duplex has everything you need for a wonderful holiday in an excellent location. Private terrace - views of the mountains and sea can just be seen in the distance.

There is a double bed in the master bedroom and twin beds in the other two bedrooms. In the lounge there is a TV, DVD and CD player.

The kitchen is equipped with electric cooker, microwave, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer and all necessary kitchen equipment (kettle, juicer, toaster etc.). There is sufficient crockery/pots/pans/glassware etc for 6 guests.

There are sun loungers and table and chairs on the terrace. Enjoy a BBQ on the terrace in the evening sun with beautiful views of the mountains. (Please water the plants for me!)

Local Area Details

The Al Andalus complex is located between Puerto Rey and Vera. A new supermarket is at Puerto Rey with fresh bread, meat and greengrocery. Enjoy fresh bread/croissants/pastries every day! Tennis courts are at Puerto Rey. The beach is about 2 km away - wide sandy clean beach and I have never seen it crowded. A short drive along the coast past Vilaricos there are small beaches and coves.
FOUR golf courses within short driving distance; fishing villages of Garrucha and Villaricos short distance along the coast, Mojacar (a busy tourist area) just a short drive away. A little further along the coast is Cabo de Gata National Park with beautiful scenery and beaches.

Nearby you will find the Aqua park, excellent fun for all the family and half price admission in the afternoons! Go-Karts can be found about a mile away in Garrucha. Mini-Hollywood is nearby, this is where the spaghetti westerns of the 70's were filmed - worth a visit. The ancient white village of Mojacar is a 15 minute drive, you can see it from the terrace. Granada is a 2 hour drive, visit the Alahambra Palace, it is lovely. There are 3 18 hole golf courses within a radius of 8 miles and 1 9 hole course where you can play all day for 24 Euros. It is a lovely area, relatively uncommercialised, has more hours of sunshine than anywhere else in Europe and is still very Spanish. There is no "high-rise" in the area, building is being strictly controlled so it remains very rural.

About Local Restaurants

There is a vast variety of local restaurants - of course the local fare is fish but there are also chinese, austrian, pasta, and pizza restaurants and even an angus steak house in Garrucha - definitely recommended! Their steaks are delicious, attractively presented and generous in size. My recommendation is not to order a starter!

About Children Activities

The Spanish welcome children and it is no exception here. There will be no problem taking children to restaurants in the evening and there are children's play areas near the beach in Garrucha and Mojacar.

About Local Attrcations

The ancient hillside village of Mojacar Pueblo is perched in the Sierra Cabrerra mountains and can be seen from the first floor terrace. It offers spectacular views and celebrates many fiestas throughout the year. Charming narrow cobbled streets frequented by many artists and houses interesting craft shops.

About Parks

The Cabo de Gata National Park is just the other side of Mojacar. This is a protected area with 30 kms of beautiful coastline. This area is also popular with bird-watchers (twitchers!)

About Fishing

Fisherman can be seen along the coast and many fish from the beach in certain areas. It is definitely entertaining visiting the active fishing harbour in Garrucha in the afternoon to see the fish auctions.

About Airport Information

The closest airport is Almeria and flights arrive from Birmingham, Gatwick and Stanstead; Murcia and Alicante airports are further away but an easy drive along the E15 motorway. Airlines to check are Easyjet; BMI Baby; Mytravelite; and also Tarleton travel which is based in Mojacar. They will also arrange pick up from the airport.

About Skiing

There are skiing facilities at Granada in the Sierra Nevada mountains. There are about a 90 minute drive away.

About Golfing

The following golf courses are a short drive away: Dessert Springs - a prestigious golf course with a dress code; Valle de Este - less formal and I am told one of the best courses; Two further golf courses in Mojacar and Turre. The golf course in Turre is informal and a nine hold course while I understand the course in Mojacar is challenging!

About Diving

There are several diving schools in the area - Mojacar, Villaricos and San Juan de los Terreros. I am not a diver but I belive these are accredited diving schools and the area is popular with divers.

About Beaches

The nearest beach is at Puerto Rey - a wide sandy beach which I have never seen crowded even in August. (See photograph) Lovely for a stroll. For those who enjoy walking there is a promenade which runs the length of Garrucha past the beaches and the fishing harbour. (Also see photograph)

About Transport

We do recommend that you hire a car to enjoy the area to the full but there is a local bus which stops just outside the complex. This will take you to the nearby towns of Garrucha, Mojacar and Vera. There is a coach from Vera which goes to the airport at Almeria.

About Weather/Climate/Temperature

This area is reputed to have the greatest number of sunshine hours in Europe. Hot in the summer, but there is often a breeze from the sea; moderate climate in the winter. The first-floor terrace is south-west facing so benefits from the evening sun.

About Bars

There are number of bars in nearby towns of Garrucha and Mojacar; some livelier than others.
