FIVE GABLES COTTAGE, a Victorian miners cottage with country views built circa 1860, is opposite the owners Guest House, and has been completely re-furbished with facilities and equipment for five guests to sleep in two bedrooms. There is an enclosed lawn, gardens and parking to the front and side.
Binchester is a small village 3 miles north-east of Bishop Auckland and 9 miles south-west of Durham City. A public footpath opposite the cottage leads to fields, woods and the Auckland Walk for those wishing to exercise themselves or dogs.
The house is fully double glazed, has good loft insulation and is carpeted throughout. Central heating is gas-fired and the lounge is equipped with a gas fire. All rooms have been furnished to provide comfort for guests. The two bedrooms and bathroom are situated on the first floor. The kitchen/diner and lounge are situated on the ground floor The front entrance is via a double glazed porch.
The main bedroom has one double bed and one single bed, the smaller bedroom has two single beds. All linen, bedding, towels, etc. are provided in the hire costs. The kitchen/diner is fully equipped and has access to the patio area, and rear entrance.
Five Gables Cottage is ETC 4 Star graded and open all year - early booking for Christmas & New Year is advisable.
Short breaks (3 nights) may be available during our Low Season.
Up to 2 medium-sized well-behaved dogs welcome - a charge of 10GBP pw per dog applies.
Guide Dogs welcome - free of charge.

Local Area Details

Binchester is an ideal centre for touring being 15 minutes from Durham City, 45 minutes from Newcastle, one & half hours from York, 2 hrs from the
Lake District and one & half hours from the Scottish Borders
and two & half hours from Edinburgh.
A good bus service to Durham & Newcastle is available 250m from
Five Gables Cottage, with local services to Bishop Auckland and Spennymoor approximately 50m from the cottage;
and we are close to Binchester Roman Fort,
Auckland Castle and a Cycle Path.

There are golf courses at Bishop Auckland, Crook & Durham.
Leisure centres at Willington, Spennymoor and Bishop Auckland.
Beamish Open Air Museum, the Metro Centre ( for shopaholics), Newcastle, the Roman Wall, the Yorkshire Dales, the North Yorks Moors, the Durham Dales and the coasts of both Yorkshire and Northumberland are within an easy hours drive.
Major supermarkets, banks and general shops are available at Bishop Auckland (3 miles). There is a Service Station shop open 7 am -11pm, selling a range of goods from milk to toothpaste, 300 yds from the cottage, & a sub-post office/shop 1 mile from the cottage
There is a public telephone (& post box) 100 yds from the cottage.

A public footpath opposite the cottage leads to fields, woods, the Auckland Walk & Weardale Way for those wishing to exercise themselves or dogs.

Arrangements have been made to enable guests to use
the bar in the village Community Centre (100 yds).
For those who do not wish to totally self-cater there are a number of inns in the area and good reasonably priced food can be obtained.
The owners would be pleased to offer advice on places to visit and eat.
