Close to the stunning chateau of Hautefort, this beautifully converted, honey-coloured stone barn, La Grange, is on a 19-acre estate of woodland and meadow, but within walking distance of the charming village of Tourtoirac, where there are local shops, a bar/restaurant and ruined abbey.

The old beams, galleried library, traditional stone walls and large open fires of this huge barn are complemented by antique French and English furnishings. Large French doors open onto the spacious terrace, with its barbecue and outdoor dining furniture. Beyond are the roman steps of the private 12m x 6m swimming pool, safely fenced, and surrounded by the well-planted, secluded garden.

Ground Floor:
A huge, breathtaking sitting/dining room with a really splendid fireplace and massive monastery table is overlooked by a galleried, mezzanine TV area. The large, fitted kitchen has a farmhouse table and is fully equipped. Also on the ground-floor is delightful four-poster bedroom with an en-suite bathroom and its own secluded terrace. Guest toilet.

Upstairs:
From the mezzanine floor where there is a satellite TV, games and a sitting area, open-tread stairs lead to a galleried library and beamed bedrooms: 2 twin bedrooms sharing a bathroom and separate toilet, and an en-suite double bedroom with its own terrace overlooking the pool. And addition to 8 beds there are cots and high chairs available for babies.

Outside:
A magnificent wooden barn and scented lime tree form part of a large courtyard. Under the adjoining barn is a large games room with table tennis, darts, table skittles and a fabulous summer kitchen. On the far side is the farmhouse, La Chataigne, arranged for maximum privacy with its own garden, pool and completely separate driveway. All guests are welcome to use the extensive 19 acres of grounds (woodland and meadow), games room, boules pitch. For children there are sandpits and adventure play area with a Wendy house and there are bicycles for people of all ages to borrow.

Local Area Details

Tourtoirac is a pretty, unspoilt village beside the Auvezere river. Several shops include a traditional baker, a general store and a bar/restaurant, while the river is fun for fishing or paddling. There is a horse-riding centre and miles of marked country tracks for riding, biking or walking, and canoe hire in villages nearby. Only 8kms away is the magnificent chateau of Hautefort with its little town clustered under its walls. Here, there are a supermarket and shops, restaurants, a museum, tennis courts and a fishing lake with pedaloes. It is also only 8km to the charming town of Excideuil with its popular weekly market.

Between Perigueux (35km) and Brive (45km), Tourtoirac sits comfortably at the centre of the sights that have made the Dordogne region so famous. Just 30km away are the prehistoric Lascaux Caves at Montignac and the ancient cliff city of Roque St Christophe.
Within an hour's drive are the Grotto of Rouffignac and the lively medieval towns of Sarlat, Bergerac (nearest airport) and Brant�me on the River Dronne, numerous castles, ch�teaux, superb gardens, caves, adventure parks, golf courses, water sports at Rouffiac or Larche and, for more adventurous canoeing, the mighty Dordogne and V�z�re rivers. A little further afield is Rocamadour, France's second most visited site, the wine growing areas of St Emilion, the beautiful countryside of the Limousin and the upper reaches of. And, off course, there are also numerous opportunities for wining and dining on the fabulous local produce or just lazing in the sun.
