After two months, the eggs hatch, and the baby turtles all slowly make their way back to the sea. It’s truly one of nature’s wonders that leave you in awe.
If you want to witness this amazing display, visit the island somewhere between June and August. There are Zakynthos apartments, hotels and lodgings nearby, so you won’t have trouble finding a place to stay although book early as these months become fully-booked early on.
Perhaps the most popular beach on the island is also the Navagio Beach, not only because of its beautiful waters but also because of the serene surroundings and coves found on the beach. There are also the ruins of a ship that was supposedly used to illegally bring in cigarettes. The ruins were found back in the 1980s. The boat is part of the attraction of the beach where tourists love to have their picture taken next to it.
Another wonder of nature is the monk seal that is also found in the island. Visitors delight at the sight of the seals swimming and cavorting about, mindless of the people watching them.
Churches, museums and nature parks are also in the island. The Church of Agios Dionysios, Church of Agia Mavra and Monastery of Saint John the Baptist are only some of the popular churches visited by tourists.
