British Airways Finally Able to Make Serious Progress With Cabin Crew
Robert JonesJust recently, British Airways has headed off a third round of industrial action by cabin crew next week. This great news comes as the airline is able to make some very serious progress with the Unite union during talks.
The joint leader of the Unite union, Tony Woodley, did go on to confirm that talks with the airline would continue over the next few days. It is the first time that the two sides have met since the seven day strike last month. This strike was able to ground hundreds of flights and cost the airline £45 million.
Unite did recently threaten to hold another walkout starting on April 14th. However, according to some sources no new dates would be set with the negotiations still continuing over the next few days. Mr Woodley said that he is pleased that some serious progress had been made over the issues which have divided them.
The union went on to say that, despite this great news, there is a lot of work that still has to be done. Further discussions will take place with the company over the next few days. The union did report to representatives of their cabin crew that it would be unnecessary to set further strike dates while these talks are still going on.
Unite says that British Airways needs to make an offer that is at least as good as the one that they withdrew from talks back on March 12th when they announced their strike dates. It also insists that travel concessions withdrawn from striking cabin crew members be reinstated as part of any deal.
