Ryanair Ancillary Charges Increase As Much as 700 Percent
Stewart PerryThe low budge airline Ryanair is well known for its ancillary charges. For people that do not know, ancillary charges are when an airline charges passengers for things like check in, luggage and food. Ever since 2006, Ryanair’s ancillary charge have jumped. In fact, extra charges on some Ryanair flights have increase by as much as 700 percent since 2006.
Ryanair announced that it will be increasing the fee to check in luggage by 33 percent. This means that it will now cost passengers £40 to check in luggage. So what does this mean? Well it means that this charge could potentially add £160 to the cost of a holiday for a family of four. This price is being compared to the original £5 charge in 2006.
Passengers with Ryanair must also now pay a £10 online check in fee per return flight. This is a charge that did not even exist back in 2006, so there is nothing to even compare it to. A fee of £10 per person per return flight is also added to all payments made by credit or debit card. The only exception to this rule is for people who pay with a prepaid MasterCard debit card. However, this is not a type of card that most people just walk around with.
These two charges alone can add an extra £80 for a family of four. Other fees apply to passengers who carry excess baggage. This charge will cost passengers an extra £20 per kilo per flight. The fees just keep piling on if the passenger has sports or musical equipment. The fee for these kinds of items is £80 per item per return flight.
