Brits Traveling Habits Being Changed by Poor Exchange Rates

Apparently poor exchange rates in Europe are driving many British holidaymakers and tourists to take breaks further away from home. This is a big change from what was seen last year when many Brits chose to stay home for the holidays.

According to holiday company Thomson, long haul bookings are up more than 14 percent. Places like India, Egypt, Tunisia, Turkey and Morocco are some of the most popular destinations. A Thomson poll that was taken by 1,159 people showed that almost half of them are prepared to travel further this year than last year.

People who took the poll indicated that sightseeing was, by far, the most important factor when choosing a far away vacation. Thus, these people want to see things that they would not normally see everyday. Holidaymakers apparently also like plane journeys and the difference in language and culture.

Dermot Blastland, who is the Thomson managing director, said that their latest figures show that Brits are determined to take a real break this summer. They are done with the staycations, and it’s awaycations all the way. These people do not just want sun and sand anymore, they wants new cultures and locations. Consumers who hung back last year are more confident about spending this year and are benefiting from better deals outside the Euro Zone.

However, just because a number of Brits are choosing to travel overseas, does not mean that everyone is. In fact, there are some Brits who have been drawn into another year of staycations thanks to the big effort made by many British holiday parks to push for another round of these staycations.
