Hilton Hotels May Announce Layoffs
Robert JonesSources in the hotel industry say that Hilton Hotels is preparing to lay off staff, potentially from their IT department located in Memphis. It has been said that the layoffs many be communicated to staff as soon as today, but it is unknown how many of the workers will be affected. In Memphis, Hilton Hotels employs about 1,100 staff.
The communications department of Hilton Hotels issued a statement when contacted about the layoffs, saying that they are undergoing a corporate transformation, as previously stated. Any changes in the company will be announced directly to the Hilton Hotels team members at the right time, they added.
On January 21st, Hilton Hotels announced plans for their headquarters to move from Beverly Hills to Washington, D.C. During the 3rd quarter of this year. When the announcement for the move was made, sources in the industry suspected that the move would increase the amount of employees of the company in Memphis to around 1,500 staff.
When the company has completed the move, they will relocate the administrative operations of the Hilton Garden Inn brand of the company to Memphis. The brands of Embassy Suites, Homewood Suites, and Hampton Inn & Suites are headquartered in Memphis already. The plan is to have Home2 Suites, the recently launched brand of Hilton Hotels, located in Memphis as well.
Tim Harvey, the Chief Information Officer for Hilton Hotels, gave his resignation earlier in the month, effective March 31st. He will stay on for one year as consultant, according to a spokesman for the company.
