Eurostar Sees Bookings Grow by 50,000
Tiffany PhillipsApparently the well known cross channel rail operator Eurostar just recently saw its number of passengers grow by 50,000 between Thursday and Sunday of last week. This big growth in its normal number of passengers came as a lot of people were trying their hardest to find a way home.
The big rush to get home came after a volcanic ash cloud caused many flights last week to be canceled. This left tons of people stranded with no way to get home. Thus, these people opted to make their way back home by rail. Eurostar has added additional trains that can carry passengers across the channel, which could be another reason for the growth.
On April 19th, at least five extra services were run. Three of these services were from London to Paris and two from Paris to London. There was also an extra route from Brussels to London. A further three trains may also be run as of today.
Eurostar has just recently announced that it will be selling one way tickets for just £89. There are currently 30,000 seats available between April 20th and April 25th. These seats are expected to run out quickly, so anyone that is hoping to get a spot on one of these trains has to act quickly.
On the days just talked about, Eurostar will run at least 28 additional trains. However, travelers have still been warned not to come to the train station without a confirmed booking. Despite all of these extra services, Eurostar still cannot guarantee that everyone will be able to get a spot on these trains.
