British Airways Cabin Crew Urged to Reject the Airline’s Latest Offer
Tiffany PhillipsReports are now showing that the British Airways cabin crew have been urged to reject an offer that’s main aim was to end the long running dispute over jobs and working practices. This news came just after talks between the airline and the union ended without any kind of agreement.
Unite went on to say that it will ballot its 12,000 members on the offer, with a very strong recommendation to reject. This once again brings up the threat of another industrial action. Talks between the airline and the union have been held over the past few weeks. These talks came just after a series of strikes last month, which caused travel chaos for many airline passengers.
The union said that it would not set any fresh strike dates before the ballot result was known. However, it did stress that it remained in dispute with the airline. British Airways has already lost tens of millions of pounds in recent weeks due to the Icelandic volcanic ash cloud. Another strike could be a hard blow for the airline to handle right now.
The Unite union said that British Airways was insisting on taking vindictive disciplinary action against more than 50 union members as a result of the strikes. They also said that British Airways was refusing to restore travel perks taken away from those who took part in the industrial strike.
Officials went on to accuse British Airways of not operating in the spirit of seeking an agreement. They went on to add that the ballot result was expected before next week’s General Election. Unite’s joint leader, Tony Woodly, said that he was very disappointed that the talks with the company failed to produce an agreement.
