Holland Gets Big Win in World Cup Semi-finals

Right now most of the world has their eyes locked onto the upcoming game between Germany and Spain. Everyone knows that these two teams are the best of the best, and they are going to fight it out to see who gets to move on to the final round. However, while these two teams gear up to face each other, some other very noteworthy events have been taking place in the World Cup.

Just recently, Holland was able to beat Uruguay in the semi-finals 3-2. This is a major win for Holland, who returns to the World Cup final for the first time in almost 32 years. Holland was among the teams to play in multiple World Cup finals, only Argentina had a longer wait. They went 48 years between their World Cup final appearances (waiting between 1930 and 1978).

Also, because Holland was able to win all of its six matches in the World Cup, it becomes only the ninth team to enter the final unbeaten. The team has tied Brazil’s record of six consecutive World Cup wins, set eight years ago. Holland was also able to win all eight of its qualifying matches. This means that the team has one 14 consecutive matches in the competition. This ties a 6 year old record held by France.

So all of these stats are pretty impressive, so why aren’t more people taking about Holland? Well that is because most people believe that the winner of the the Germany – Spain match will go on to win the World Cup. However, what people forget is that, whoever wins that semi-final match, has to take on the undefeated Holland team in the final.
