Travel Operator Goldtrail Collapses and Leaves Tourists Stranded

It now seems that many Greece and Turkey holidays have been left in ruins. The Civil Aviation Authority is doing its best on trying to fly home 16,000 UK tourist that have been left stranded. This happened after tens of thousands of people saw their holidays ruined by the collapse of travel operator, Goldtrail.

The Civil Aviation Authority went on to confirm that Goldtrail, which is known for specializing in low-cost holidays to Turkey and Greece, had gone into administration. This did leave about 16,000 people stranded overseas.

For people that do not know, Goldtrail was a medium-size independent operator with almost 150,000 customers. An estimated 2,000 people from the UK were due to travel with this company over the weekend. It is also believed that as many as 50,000 people who have booked flights over the summer will be affected by this closing.

Thus, hundreds of people headed to the airport over the weekend unaware that Goldtrail had bit the dust. A group, which was suppose to be flying out of Glasgow, were forced to retrieve their bags after having them checked in during the early hours of Saturday morning.

Mark McLay, who was just one of the 180 people that were due to fly out of Marmaris, Turkey, said that travelers were told over a public address system that the company had gone under. They would not be flying and would be escorted from the building. He went on to say that they were met by police at the departure gate and told to hand back any duty-free goods they had purchased.
