Unite and British Airways to Resume Talks While Preparing for Legal Action

Robert Jones

It now seems that British Airways and the Unite union, which is the union that is representing the British Airways cabin crew, said that they will resume talks over pay and staffing levels. The union went on to say that this will happen while they prepare for legal action over the company’s withdrawal of travel benefits for striking workers.

According to the Unite union, British Airways breached European human rights legislation when it chose to scrap travel perks for any worker that took place in strikes. British Airways said that it is preparing a response to the claim.

The Unite union will resume their talks with the carrier next week. This will take place under the auspices of the UK’s state funded Advisory, Conciliation and Aspiration Service. It would also appear that the labor group said it is also preparing to provide some additional support in terms of money to members who have been docked additional pay for striking.

Tony Woodley and Derek Simpson said that the Unite union remains determined to secure a settlement that is acceptable to the cabin crew. Until such an a agreement is reached, they will continue to support their members financially and legally.

Cabin crew members rejected British Airways’ last and final offer. They chose to reject this offer without any kind of recommendation from the union itself. The union wanted its members to make the choice by themselves. However, it now seems that the Unite union members have spoken, and they did not like what they saw in the British Airways offer. Most people still seem to be upset with the refusal to reinstate travel perks for any cabin crew members that took part in the strikes.
