UK Seeks to Draw in More Indian Tourist
Sharon MillerJust recently prime minster David Cameron arrived in India for one of the largest trade delegations ever assembled. VistBritain went on to announce its intention to increase ties with India, which is an emerging superpower. The national tourism agency went on to confirm that it will stage its main international travel trade event in Bangalore, which is in the Indian state of Karnatka. This will take place next year.
Some of the leading firms from the UK travel trade will meet with 100 of the top buyers from 15 different countries across the Middle East, Australia and Asia Pacific region. This little event is expected to generate almost £10 million of tourism business.
Jeremy Hunt, who is the secretary of state for culture, media, sport and Olympics, said that the number of visitors from India to Britain has more than doubled over the past fifteen years. Thus, the UK wants to do all it can to ensure this growth continues.
Hunt went on to say, by holding one of the largest events in Bangalore next year, not only will this inspire more people to visit UK shores, but it will also lead to an increase in business for all those within the UK tourism industry who are taking part. The prime minister has already arrived in India as of Tuesday in order to boost Anglo and Indian relations.
Ever since the coalition government has taken office, it has repeatedly stressed the need to place economic cooperation and trade development at the heart of its foreign policy. This will increase focus on fast growing economies in Asia and Latin America.
