United States Will Now Charge Brits £9 to Enter the Country

It now seems that all Brits that are thinking of traveling to the United States will be forced to pay £9 to apply for permission to enter the country. This fee will be paid in order to use the Electronic System for Travel Authorization. Reports suggest that this new fee will take effect starting next month. For people that wish to avoid it, they should go ahead and make plans to travel now.

The fee itself is being levied for all passengers using the compulsory online pre-approval scheme that is going to be replacing the green I-94W visa waiver form. Visitors must pay a £9, or $14, fee starting September 8th. All the funds that are made from this fee will be used to help promote tourism to the states.

Of course, this new fee has not been welcomed by all. In fact, some people have gone as far as to criticize the United States for inviting a new fee for tourists that will be used to fund tourism. These experts say that it’s odd to charge tourists more in an attempt to get more tourists to visit.

This Electronic System for Travel Authorization applies to nationals of 36 countries that enjoy visa waiver status. The system allows tourists to enter the United States without a full travel visa. Visitors to the United States who need a visa, must pay a fee that starts at £85. Thus, in a way, this new system helps some tourists save money. Of course, this fee can cost even more depending on the nature of the traveler’s trip.
