Ryanair Boss Says Stewardesses Should Act as Second Pilot
Stewart PerryApparently Ryanair boss Michael O’Leary is always trying to come up with new ways to save money. Not too long ago he came up with the idea for airplanes to have a standing section on them. This way passengers could stand on the plane and airlines could get more people on each flight. However, this time, the Ryanair boss wants to know why he has to pay for two pilots. He thinks that stewardesses should be able to land the plane in case of an emergency.
Michael O’Leary said that Ryanair would like to remove co-pilots from its flight deck. He said that this is nothing more than just a waste of money. He then said that stewardesses could be trained to land the planes in case they had to.
In a recent interview Mr O’Leary admitted that he does not see why every plane needs to have two pilots. He said that when people really think about it, planes only need one pilot. So let’s just take that second one out and let computers fly the planes.
Of course, Mr O’Leary did not stop his dream there. He went on to say that if pilots had some kind of emergency, then they could ring a little bell and a stewardess could come in and land the plane.
One experienced pilot, Patrick Smith, went on to say that this idea was just beyond preposterous. He said that even in routine operations it is very important for planes to have a second person. The British Airlines Pilots Association general sectary, Jim McAuslan went on to add to this. He said that there is just nothing that Mr O’Leary won’t say to get a little publicity.
