Suspension of Cabin Crew At British Airways Raises Further Strike Fears

According to recent reports, the likelihood of another cabin crew strike at British Airways has recently increased. This news comes after the Unite union expressed dismay and anger over the suspension of a staff member at the airline.

The Unite union said that a long-standing member of the cabin crew, Andrea Molton, has been suspended by British Airways for launching a Christmas collection for suspended and sacked colleagues.

In a recent letter to Tony McCarthy, the British Airways director of employee relations, Tony Woodley, who is the Unite joint general secretary, said that this disciplinary action “beggars belief at the sensitive moments in industrial relations.” He went on to say that the suspension exemplifies the bullying and vindictive attitude that British Airways managers hold toward members of its cabin crew staff. Tony said that he is urging McCarthy to intervene and lift Andrea’s suspension immediately.

British Airways has been locked in a bitter dispute with its cabin crew members for 14 long months now. Just two weeks ago, Unite scrapped plans to hold a ballot on the airline’s latest offer. This means that there is no end in sight for this ongoing dispute.

The union says it is seeking urgent talks with the company on how to resolve this big disagreement quickly. This huge disagreement all started over cost cutting plans put into effect by the airline that the cabin crew did not like.

For the sake of travelers, hopefully this big dispute will come to an end quickly. If it does not, then passengers can look forward to more strikes in the future. These strikes will lead to more cancellations and delays for British Airways.
