Royal Wedding Likely Not to be Affected by British Airways Strikes
Dave BondWhen it comes to the ongoing threat of British Airways strikes, there is usually not any good news to report. However, recently some good news has come to light. Not that the union and British Airways bosses have reach an agreement, as that would be wishful thinking, but it does seem like strikes at British Airways are unlikely to affect the royal wedding.
In fact, recent reports suggest that Unite, which is the trade union that is representing British Airways cabin crew, is expected to rule out industrial action during the royal wedding on April 29. However, this brings up the question of why?
The union knows that they can do the most damage to British Airways when the airline is expected to be the most busy. So why would they choose not to strike during the royal wedding, which is proving to be a major event?
Well, most experts seem to think that the union is going to rule this out because it would make them very unpopular. The fact of the matter is, the union is already not very popular with a lot of travelers around Britain, because each strike causes more flights to be canceled. If the union was to cause flight cancellations during the royal wedding, people would be up in arms about it.
However, no one can get too happy just yet. Apparently Unite’s general secretary, Len McCluskey, will not rule out any strike dates. He likes to keep his options open. However, that being said, it is understood that the union does want to avoid disrupting major public events like the royal wedding.
