Michael Jackson’s Will Comes to Light
Abi BrayThe question that has been asked by so many people, ‘Does Michael Jackson have a valid will?’, just got a little bit more complicated. Just the other day, Katherine Jackson, Michael’s mother sought for control over Michael’s estate. She claimed in court documents that the Michael died without a will. However, only hours after they filled the document a drafted will from 2002 surfaced.
According to many sources, the document, which is set to be the centerpiece of a lengthy legal battle, divides the pop star’s estate among his mother and three children (who are Prince Michael II, Paris, and Prince Michael). Some of the estate is also set to go to charity.
Londell McMillan, the lawyer for Katherine and Joe Jackson said that no will has been presented to the Jackson family. They will review any will as soon as they receive it.
Although it is still unclear who has custody of the three kids, a court ruling the other day gave temporary guardianship to Katherine Jackson. The only part that was clear in the will is that Joe Jackson was not named as an heir. This will that was drafted by Jackson’s longtime attorney John Branca could be filed in court later this week.
John Branca represented Michael Jackson from 1980 to 2006. The lawyer was then rehired by Jackson just a week before his sudden death.
Many sources also say that when Michael Jackson died, he was about $500 million in debt. The assets that belong to Michael are said to dwarf that staggering number by over $200 million now.
