Ryanair Sued by Disabled Woman Who’s Husband Had to Lift Her Onto a Plane
Helen YoungReports are now clearly showing that Ryanair has been sued by a disabled woman who said that she was humiliated when the airline’s hydraulic lift system failed to show up. This woman, Jo Heath, age 57, suffers from multiple sclerosis. To make things worse, her husband was forced to carry her onto the flight using a fireman’s lift.
According to reports, Jo had been sitting with her husband outside the Ryanair plane waiting for a hydraulic lift to get to the plane. However, it never showed up. After waiting for 30 minutes, she and her husband, who is 56 years old, started asking the pilot and crew members for help. However, none of the Ryanair staff would help carry her onto the plane for fear that they might hurt themselves.
So what ended up happening? Mr Heath had to sling his wife over his shoulder and climb the stairs to the plane. The whole time the ground staff and cabin crew members just looked on. However, in the end, it could be the couple that has the last laugh.
Mrs Heath said that she has just won £1,750 in compensation for the humiliation that she suffered at the hand of Ryanair. Apparently it was ruled that the airline breached its contract by not providing the assistance that she needed in order to get on the plane. This, of course, goes against disability discrimination laws.
The judge had his own two cents to throw in when giving the verdict. He said that the budget airline had one interest, and that was getting the plane airborne in time.
