New Green Travel Insurance

A huge majority of people in Britain would choose to reduce energy consumption within their home rather than going without flying for a year, it’s been found via a new study.

During a research carried out at Loughborough University, 88% of people polled said they would accept reducing the amount of energy they use in their home throughout the whole year, but only 26% of the respondents said they would accept to abandon air travel for a year.

The air duty for passengers using short haul flights is scheduled to jump to £12 by 2012, although when respondents were asked about what increase in the cost of airline travel would discourage them from short flights, four in five people polled individuals claimed £50.

The researchers at Loughborough University concluded that it was still the cost and not the negative impact on the environment that dissuaded Britons from flying more often.

The UK government is expecting the number of total air travel passengers to double to about 500million by year 2030.

The insurance industry has cleverly taken hold of this opportunity, as some insurers are now offering a new type of travel insurance policy which targets the environmentally-aware traveller. The plan called a ‘green travel insurance’ policy includes a reduction of up to 25% for travels that do not involve any airline journey.

A representative with  the Environmental Transport Association claimed that a rising number of holiday makers are eager to reduce the negative impact of their travels – this new brand of traveller wants to go environmentally friendly without a compromise on quality. This travel insurance policy gives a discount for the rising number of travellers who opt not to fly for environmental concerns.
