The Manta Resort Offers Africa’s First Underwater Hotel Room

Dave Bond

Ever wanted to sleep underwater? No, not sleeping with the fish underwater, but sleeping in a hotel that is built beneath the waves. Now people can do just that, but they are going to have to travel. According to reports, the Manta Resort in Africa has just launched Africa’s first underwater hotel room.

Of course, don’t expect to simply fly to Africa and have this room waiting for you. There is only one room so far, and it stays booked far in advanced. The hotel room is located just off the remote island of Pemba, away from the main hotel. Pemba is part of the archipelago of Zanzibar, which is located in Tanzania.

Although it’s cool to sleep underwater, the room itself is 820 feet from land. It has three floors and includes a dining room, an upper deck and a bedroom. The upper deck is above the water and can be used for star gazing. Since there is no light pollution in that area, it’s often considered one of the best places on the planet for star gazing.

The bedroom in this hotel room is below deck. It is completely submerged underwater and has windows on every side, offering a stunning 360-degree view of the sea. In some cases, fish swim right up to the glass and give you an up-close look at sea life.
