Calypso Water Park in Ottawa

Ottawa will soon boast another attraction. As of next summer, visitors to the capital will be able to enjoy water fun at Calypso Park, which promises to be the biggest water theme park in Canada.

The company behind the project, Groupe Village Vacances Valcartier, held a weekend long open house last week to reveal the nearly completed amusement park to the public and the media. President and CEO of Groupe Village Vacances Valcartier Guy Drouin was on hand to unveil the project.

Even if October weather in Ottawa is a little cool for splashing around in pools, the weekend long unveiling gave a good reason for promoters to turn on all the rides for the pleasure of the thousands who showed up for the event.

The tour also offered visitors a glimpse of what the attraction will provide to make their Calypso day a special experience.

The new water park is located about 35 kilometres south-east of the Canadian capital.

During the peak season, the attraction is set to employ 500 full-time seasonal staff in order to comply with all the different aspects necessary for the normal operation of such a large attraction, including employees in water safety, food service and customer service.

The entertainment facility is set to be Canada’s biggest waterpark, boasting an area of 100 acres. It will have 35 different water slides, which will all feature the latest technology as well as a 50,000 square feet wave pool, Canada’s largest, where 4.5 feet waves will be enjoyed.

Calypso Water Theme Park is scheduled to start operating on June 7 2010. Travellers bounded for Ottawa can use Air Canada which serves the city with daily year-round connections from London, Frankfurt, New York, and most major centres in North America.
