Heathrow: worst airport in the world
Robert JonesLondon’s Heathrow airport wins the title of the world’s worst airport, based on an international survey of airline passengers.
The poll was carried out among members of Priority Pass, which is the leading independent airport lounge programme in the world, receiving data from 160 countries. The survey respondents to the annual research claim to have made an average of 17 flights in the past year.
This year’s figures yield’s the same results for Heathrow, since it’s still recovering from the controversial impact of the launch of Terminal 5, which saw travellers suffer from long flight delays and a huge number of lost luggage.
Heathrow recently claimed that the punctuality of its air service had benefited from a notable improvement this summer, which was up 14% for the period between April and June over the same time one year ago, based on statistics revealed by the Civil Aviation Authority. Delays, on average, also fell, decreasing from 18 minutes to ten minutes.
Heathrow chief operating officer Mike Brown said the airport is working very hard to make all passengers experience a journey which will be considered better than the last one, and the recent numbers show that the facility is on the right track.
But Mr. Brown added that the challenge is to keep increasing the standards and rebuilding a facility which can make all of UK proud, thanks to its long-term investment strategy, which allows £1 billion for services and facilities every year,
A recent survey carried among Telegraph readers revealed that 80% of passengers who have used Terminal 5 said they had found the experience enjoyable. However, Heathrow users still continually complain about the quality of service at the facility’s four other terminals.
Paris’ Charles de Gaulle airport was voted the world’s second worst airport, followed by Los Angeles, Frankfurt and Miami.
The readers of the Telegraph chose Singapore’s Changi airport, a perennial favourite, as the best airport in the world, followed closely by Chek Lap Kok irport in Hong Kong. Amsterdam Schiphol was chosen as Europe’s number one airport.
