Holidaymakers Still Worry About Peeping Toms
Stewart PerryJust recently, due to the story about the ESPN broadcaster Erin Andrews, hotels and motel managers have been put under a lot of pressure. Not only are they under the pressure of trying to get people traveling again and choosing their hotels over others, they are also having to deal with the threat of peeping toms. This is a new worry for holidaymakers that has been made very public.
The new worry about peeping toms comes just after Erin Andrews was a victim of a peeping tom herself. This case brought up a lot of new worries for holiday travelers, including how the peeping tom, Michael David Barrett, got access to the shots of Erin Andrews.
Although not everything is clear yet on what took place, it is clear that Erin Andrews was in her hotel room, Michael was able to take pictures of her from her peep hole, only after he was able to request an adjacent room to her. Reports do go on to say that Michael simply rigged a peep hole in the door that separated the two rooms. He then videotaped her using his cell phone while the reportes believed that she was in the privacy of her own room.
Thus, many holidaymakers are afraid to stay in hotels, because they are never sure who could be watching. Despite this, hotels have come forward and made it clear that steps have been put into place that prevent these kinds of things from happening. For example, guests can no longer simply call and ask to get an adjacent room from a guest that they cannot prove they know. Information is only given out to people if the guest staying in the room has named certain people that are allowed to have the information.
