Spinning hotel planned for Croatia
Dave BondRichard Hywel Evans of Studio RHE, a British holiday resort architect, has designed the first revolving hotel in the world which is planned to be built on the small island of Solta, off the coast of Croatia.
The yet to named £70 million hotel project, is scheduled for completion within two and half years. The building’s rotating section will slowly revolve on a turntable made of steel and constructed in separate parts at the gigantic Split shipyards, immediately opposite the island of Solta.
The 200 ft wide, three-story tall section will revolve 1.3 times during the course of a day at the centre of a purpose-built lake. The 72 ft non-moving central hub, will host the reception area.
Thanks to passageway leading to an underground entrance of the hub, hotel guests will arrive in the building. They’ll use an elevator to reach their floor and then walk along a corridor leading to their room on the revolving section.
Speaking to reporters, Evans claimed that the movement of the rotating section would be so slow that people visiting the hotel will not feel the movement. He added that project promoters believe this is a great example of bold, creative and exciting architectural design.
The main hotel building will have 50 suites. The resort will also boast a 170-berth marina as well as a yachtclub, villas and guest pavilions. The centrepiece building will be situated in the middle of an infinity-edged lake which will cascade down on a hillside spa located below.
