Berlin Hotels Are Full Ahead Of Berlin Wall Party

Berlin hotels are completely booked solid in preparation for the 20th anniversary celebrations of the destruction of the Wall scheduled for next week, with the city being overtaken by visitors from everywhere across Germany and abroad, officials announced Monday.

Berlin Hotels Federation official Thomas Lengfelder said the situation is completely crazy, explaining that all Berlin hotels are claiming to be full as of November 9.

There are about 104,000 beds in hotels and guest houses of the German capital.

Lengfelder said a huge majority of visitors would be German nationals wanting to relive the euphoria that they felt the night when the Wall fell amidst a peaceful and relatively quiet revolution, paving the road for a national reunification and putting the Cold War to rest once and for all.

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown and French President Nicolas Sarkozy are among those heads of states who have confirmed their presence for the event. The Berlin festivities are scheduled to climax in a “Freedom Party” happening at the Brandenburg Gate, which symbolises the former border between East and West Berlin.

Highlights of the Berlin Wall festivities are said to include a free performance by the Berlin Symphony Orchestra conducted by Daniel Barenboim.
