Lonely Planet Picks The World’s Top Destination
Lonely Planet has compiled travel information gathered by its authors, employees and various travellers to come up with a list of its 10 favourite countries to visit in 2010.
Making the list for 2010, New Zealand has been named alongside El Salvador, Malaysia, Morocco, Germany, Portugal, Suriname, Greece, Nepal, and the USA.
In giving great marks to New Zealand, the authors of Lonely Planet said there was wisdom behind the famous saying ‘If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’ and have claimed that this beautiful country, the land of the Maori and hobbits, was indeed not in need of any repairs.
The guide mentioned a few activities that really made a trip to New Zealand worthwhile. These included exploring Tongariro National Park, paragliding over Queenstown, flying over Fiordland and kayaking in Abel Tasman National Park.
Sadly ignored by travellers because of political unrest and violence in the past, El Salvador has evolved into a much safer destination for visitors, and the authors of the guide have deemed San Salvador to be one of trendiest cities in Central America, where one can find top-rated universities, art galleries and museums. Plus El Salvador is also seen as a good surfing destination, claiming Punta Roca as its most famous spot for this sport.
Nepal was appreciated for its trekking routes and Morocco for its quaint and hidden villages, souk labyrinths in both Marrakesh and Fez, and its numerous streetside artisan stalls.
